Final HS Admissions Reminders & Dead
Dear 8th Grade Families,
I would like to do one last check-in with families regarding some final HS Admissions updates. As we head into the end of the school year, I am including some useful pieces of information regarding how to join waitlists for Fall 2022 HS Admissions, accepting offers, and opting out.
We understand that many of you are processing whether you will attend a DOE High School or the Brooklyn Prospect High School. We ask that families notify me as soon as possible about your student's plans for the coming year, on or before June 24th, 2022. I will get you in touch with our registrar who can share next steps to release the Brooklyn Prospect High School seat.
High school waitlists are now open! All 8th grade students can join waitlists for Fall 2022 HS Admissions. Now that waitlist are open, families are able to do the following:
Families are able to see the waitlist your student is on, view your student's position on each waitlist, and add your student to additional waitlists in MySchools (myschools.nyc).
High school staff can begin making offers to students on their waitlist. As a result, if your student receives a waitlist offer, you can accept or decline that offer.
Families of students who receive a waitlist offer will have one week (7 days) to accept or decline their waitlist offer.
Waitlists will close in September 16, 2022.
*Though you may remain on any and all waitlists until the deadline, I recommend opting out of waitlists your student is not interested in or those where your student's position is extremely high.*
Accepting Offers
Like previous years, students with one main round admissions offer are defaulted to accept that offer in MySchools. For these students to accept this offer and attend the school in Fall 2022, there is nothing else for families to do.
Students with more than one admissions offer (an offer to a program from their application and an offer to a Specialized High School) need to accept the offer they want.
The deadline for these students to accept their offer is June 24. Families can accept the offer they want by doing the following:
Log into the family-facing MySchools site (myschools.nyc) and navigate to the "Waitlist" page.
Alert me about which offer you would like to accept or decline.
The deadline for opting out of any DOE program is June 24.
Congratulations on getting through a very challenging year of HS admissions. We are excited to see some of your students returning to BPCS and are also very proud of those students who are taking the leap into a new HS experience! Please don't hesitate to reach out to myself or another counselor/dean if your student needs support. If you have any additional questions about admissions updates please direct them to the High School Enrollment office (HSEnrollment@schools.nyc.gov).

Below are some more tips:
Sign-up for DOE Email Updates: This is a great way for families of 7th and 8th grade students to receive email notifications about the 2021 combined guide and other high school admissions announcements, even before they can create an account in MySchools. Families can sign up here: https://www.schools.nyc.gov/sign-up
Watch DOE videos! They cover how offers are made and how admissions to specialized high schools happens. Videos are available here.
Create an account in MySchools! Families can create an account in the family-facing MySchools site at any time. After they get their child’s Welcome Letter, families can add their child to their account in MySchools.
2021 NYC High School and Specialized High Schools Student Handbook
Updates:
The high school application will open the week of January 24, 2022, and close during March 11th, 2022.
In response to feedback from community leaders, families, and schools, borough- and zone-based admissions priorities will remain in place this year. This means that some high school programs will continue to prioritize zoned applicants and/or applicants who live or currently attend middle school in a specific borough. District-based admissions priorities were eliminated last year and will continue to not be used in high school admissions.
For high school programs that screen applicants, multiple measures will be used to evaluate students this year. These measures will include submissions of work samples from last year, such as essays or reports, and first-semester grades from this school year.
