Family Links & Resources:
Hello CHMS Families!
ASP would like to welcome our new families to our school community! Thank you to our returning families for enrolling children with us again. As always, we would like thank everyone for entrusting your children to our care. The ASP at Clinton Hill Middle School offers free enrichment, leadership and athletic daily programming immediately following the school day until 6:00 PM, Monday- Friday. We run our program in semesters (you can find details below). This allows us to offer various activities throughout the very long school year.

We look forward to seeing our CHMS students each day!
PLEASE NOTE: For the purpose of completing this application, the “applicant” will always refer to your child(ren).
If you are applying for more than one child, you must complete an application for each child.
PAGE 2: You must list at least one emergency contact and all of the contact information listed.
PAGE 3: Please list anyone outside of parent/guardian and emergency contacts who will be allowed to pick up your child from the program. This includes babysitters, other family members, family friends and parents of other students. You will always be able to edit these authorized pick-ups via email.
Option Number One: Paper Application
The first step is to fill out and return the relevant DYCD form(attached to the August 18th communication from the CHMS Program Office - a form for kids 14+, and another for kids 13 and younger). This registers your student with the city's Department of Youth and Community Development program, and provides the school with grant funds to run the program.
The paper application can be submitted in two different ways. A) Families can complete it digitally via a 3rd party PDF editor (ex. DocuHub) and email it to chmsafterschool@prospectschools.org with the subject line: Student Full Name, Grade, ASP Application. B) Families can complete the application by hand and bring it to their student's advisory conference (in the CHMS calendar as September 5th, look for more info soon) and give it to the advisor. All Advisors have been instructed on how to submit those applications to ASP. All families will receive an "application received" email, when we are in possession of any application. Note: If a parent/guardian has not received an "application received" email within 48 hours of submitting it, please reach out to chmsafterschool@prospectschools.org
Option Number Two: To complete the enrollment form online via discoverDYCD (online application), complete the following steps:
Go to discoverDYCD at https://discoverdycd.dycdconnect.nyc/. This website allows the public to search and apply for DYCD-funded services.
Search “Brooklyn Prospect Charter School (DOWNTOWN)” and select “Add to List” to begin (see image below). Please note the address does state our interim location, and this will change when we move to our permanent location in Gowanus.
Create a login, set up an applicant (your student) and complete the universal application.
Submit the application for our program to accept your student into ASP!
Option Number Three: Complete the 13 & Younger Program Application or 14 & Older Program Application via PDF format, please complete the DYCD Application Packet located in your conference folder.
Once filled out and complete, email to chmsafterschool@prospectschools.org OR have your student hand it to their advisor in person. For clarity, if submitting via email, please ensure your subject line states: { Student Full Name, Grade Level, ASP Application}
If you have more than one child, please complete a packet for each individual child.

How long does ASP run?
September 8, 2025 - June 18, 2026
Does the after-school program cost anything?
No. All programming is free of charge.
(unless there are trips, that is subject to fees).
Please refer to the top of this page under After School Sign-Ups for more details.
WAITLIST?! Wait-- What?!
Please do not be alarmed. As of Friday, September 1st at 5:30 PM, we met our enrollment capacity as per our funders. Everyone who submits an application after that is automatically placed on the waiting list. This does not mean your child will be unable to participate in ASP. Your child should attend their selected activities.
My child wants to tryout for an athletic team, do they have to attend both tryout days?
No. Students and families should complete the tryout sign up Google Form for their respective sport and pick one day to attend tryouts.
Are there games scheduled on the weekends?
No.
How often do after-school clubs/activities meet and at what times?
Clubs/activities meet from 3:45 PM-6:00 PM on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and 2:00 PM- 6:00 PM on Wednesdays.
Will there be more clubs/activities added to the schedule?
Absolutely! Based on student enrollment and parent feedback we will be adding new clubs regularly.
What if the activity is new to my student?
Your student may join any club regardless of prior experience or skill level. Clubs are designed to include all middle school students. Please note, we will encourage all students to participate in activities that may be new to them.
What if my student wants to participate in sports? Do we still need to sign up for after school?
Yes! Athletic teams run under the After School Program. Your student(s) must be signed up for the program (DYCD Application) in order to participate in sports.
My child can only make one athletic practice day, can they still join the team?
No. All Athletes (Fall, Winter and Spring) must be able to attend both practices consistently and stay until 6:00 PM.
Are phones allowed in ASP?
No and. ASP aligns with the school day in that phone usage is prohibited. We only allow phones during Tech Tok (please see the activity description).
What if I need to get in contact with my child while they're in ASP?
Please call the ASP office 718-783-1570 ext. 3064 and we will connect you to your student.
What if my student has to leave early from ASP?
Please know the expectation of all students is to participate in ASP until dismissal. If your child has an appointment, prior engagement or there is an emergency, an early dismissal can be arranged by emailing chmsafterschool@prospectschools.org on the day of no later than 5:30 PM. Please note the cut-off time to pick your child up early is 5:45 PM to ensure program fulfillment and a smooth dismissal by 6:00 PM.
*If you arrive to the building to pick your student up early and have not emailed us a notice of change in dismissal, please know you may experience a wait time as your student has to be located, informed and close-out from their activity.
*If you have arrived after the early pick-up cut-off time, you will have to wait until dismissal to receive your student.
Is my student required to attend every session?
If your student is absent for four (4) sections of one particular activity within a trimester, then your student will be removed from that activity for the remainder of the semester.
Absent means they miss half of the activity, meaning if they get picked up from the program less than halfway through the activity, that is an absence.
If a student is absent from school then missing after school that day will not count towards the 4.
Can my student participate in ASP Sample Week if we're unsure if we want to apply?
Unfortunately, we cannot have students who do not have an application on file to participate in programming, due to the expectations of our grant.
How does the Activity Enrollment work?
Every semester, we will send our session specific activity enrollment Google Forms. You complete this with your child and pick 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice activities. It's best to complete this form as soon as it's out, because some classes will fill up quickly. If a student does not get their 1st choice, we will put them in their next choice, and so on.
Should I complete the Activity Enrollment for my child?
We understand some of our offerings excite YOU as the parent/guardian. You really want your child(ren) to participate in the (ex.)Drama Club! In our experience, students will come to us with "I don't want to participate in Drama Club! My (insert parent/guardian) picked that! Please change my class!" We humbly ask that you complete the activity enrollment form WITH your child(ren) to avoid any middle school activity angst.
What if my student wants to change their activity?
We provide a sample week each semester, so that kiddos can have an opportunity test out the activities. After the sample programming week, students have one last opportunity to make a change. After that, they will participate in that activity until the end of the semester.
How can I stay up-to-date?
We will include all program related information in the Clinton Hill Family Weekly Update and/or send an After School Program Family Update. We may also send updates home with your student(s).
