Our World Language department is thrilled to have you!! We hope to create a positive, inclusive, success-oriented language community that promotes equity and anti-racist education. We work to build communicative competence by practicing listening, speaking, reading and writing in authentic settings.
Students will develop fluency with essential vocabulary (greetings, numbers, days and months, time, family terms, description of people, daily routine) and key grammatical structures (present tense verbs, expressing basic opinions, noun-adjective agreement, basic word order for statements and questions). Class work will include practicing new vocabulary and grammar while applying these studies to practical, real-life situations. Students may find themselves "virtually" navigating their way around a global city, explaining symptoms to a doctor, haggling over prices in a market, inviting friends to a movie, and even telling personal stories about past experiences.
Our goal is that students will leave this year able to communicate with their peers, interpret authentic materials and present their ideas in the target language.

While these topics will be covered across all 3 Phases of World Language, the vocabulary, verb tenses, and language/ grammar structures will differ according to proficiency levels. All phases will focus on:
Communication
You will develop all modes and skills of language - listening, reading, speaking and writing - at the specified proficiency level. Don’t forget: it’s all about communication, not perfection.
Culture
There’s so many things occurring around the world! Knowing more about the practices and perspectives from a variety of Spanish and Mandarin-speaking cultures will help you to understand and connect with others. You will make comparisons and reflect on your own culture and personal experiences.
Connection
The Spanish and Chinese languages are being used all around us. Part of your asynchronism work will include getting into the community, and experiencing the language and culture in action. This will help you make connections to the world, other content and careers.

Phase III Mandarin Teacher
Office Hours: Tuesday 9:30-10:25AM, Wednesday 9:30-10:30am
I was born and raised in South Korea. I moved to China in High School and went to college in Beijing. Then, I moved to New York and studied to become a Mandarin teacher at NYU.
I love learning new languages and different cultures. I love living in New York because it gives me opportunities to learn about different cultures without having to visit the places.
Right now though, my focus is raising my two daughters, Lilian and Keanu. When I have time, I like to read. I read a lot of YA and sci-fi books. My favorite books are Children of Blood and Bone and Parable of the Sower.

你好 Nǐ hǎo! My Chinese name is 陈 枫 Chén Fēng. I was born in China, and moved to the USA when I was 14 years old. I have a B.A. in Asian American Studies from Binghamton University; and a M.A. in Adolescent Education Teaching Chinese from Hunter College.
I enjoy being a teacher and always have a passion to share my own languages and culture to our community. I used to teach Mandarin at a high school for 5 years in Riverdale, Bronx. This is my third year at Clinton Hill Middle School.
I love exploring new cities, learning new cultures and trying different foods from their locals.
Fun Fact: I'm also in the training process of becoming a Professional Yoga Instructor.
I look forward to a great year!

¡Hola! I was born and raised in the Dominican Republic and have been living in New York City for the past six years. With nine years of experience as a language teacher and an MFA in Creative Writing in Spanish from NYU, I’m passionate about helping students learn the language and appreciate the culture behind it. I strive to create a classroom environment where curiosity and engagement thrive.
Outside of teaching, I’m an avid cyclist and the proud dog mom of a three-year-old Havanese rescue named Lila. I love relaxing with audiobooks and paint-by-numbers, and I’m also a bit of a picky eater!
I'm excited to join the Prospect Schools team and go on a language learning journey together.

Royer Andree Garcia Rodas
Hello, how are you?
I was born and raised in Honduras. I moved to the United States in 2021. I studied foreign languages at the National Autonomous University of Honduras and then traveled to France to work as a Spanish teacher before coming to New York.
I love languages and cultures. I have 7 years of experience teaching languages. I like learning from my students and seeing the talents they have. New York is a place where you can always hear different types of Spanish and cultures.
I am very focused on improving as a teacher and learning a new methodology. I am making my life again here in the United States to create the best future for my family. I like sports, art, history, movies, and traveling the world.
