Our Mission & Vision
The Arts & Athletics department at Clinton Hill Middle School develops a richness of human/learning experiences that cultivate confidence, critical thinking, creativity and collaboration through the disciplines of Dance, Musical Theater, Physical Education, and Visual Arts.
The Arts & Athletics department will support students in accessing higher education and varied career pathways through skills developed and honed in our respective subjects and disciplines. To this end, our classes will be equitable spaces where all students learn without barriers.
Meet the Team!
Dancing since the age of five, I became the only girl in my immediate family to pursue a dance career. I have trained at Broadway Dance Center in New York City, participated in the Alvin Ailey summer dance intensive program in Harlem. Formed dance teams across the five boroughs and participated in the judging panel for the DYCD Step It Up Competitions at the Apollo Theatre. My area of expertise reside in Cheerleading, Ballet, Modern, Jazz, Hip-Hop and African dance.
Throughout the years training, I studied dance and gender studies at Eugene Lang College of Liberal Arts at The New School in Manhattan where I obtained a BA in Dance studies. Along the way I found a passion in cosmetology and began a mobile hairstyling business serving communities in the tristate area. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with family, friends and my fur baby Afrikka and one of my favorite things to do is travel.

Physical Education
Ms. Bethea she/her
Hello to all members of our learning community. My name is Kimberly Bethea and I am new to CHMS. I bring years of experience in the field of education as a teacher, coach, and administrator.
I'm so thrilled to be joining the Prospect community.
I'm dedicated to developing a student centered, positive learning environment through quality relationship building and understanding that each students abilities are different. Therefore, I strive to incorporate all learning styles in my classroom so that all students can succeed.
Hello, my name is Ms. Montoyo and I'm so excited to meet you all! I am the 6th Grade Visual Arts teacher and 6th-7th Grade Spanish Teacher.
I was born in Brooklyn, New York, but was raised in Luquillo, Puerto Rico till the age of 4. I earned a BFA in Visual Art Education at Pratt Institute and an MFA in General Education with a Bilingual Extension at Hunter College.
Being part of an artistic family encouraged me to find my voice through visual art. In addition to majoring in Education at Pratt Institute, I majored in Painting and Drawing; leading to my experience in gallery curation.
I love reading and I occasionally art journal as a form of self-care. On my spare time, I watch anime and frequently play on my current obsession (Nintendo Switch).

Opportunities for Improvement
Effort Assignments
Homework assignments can be turned in late within 2 class meetings of the day it was due for partial credit.
Classwork assignments may be resubmitted up until the last 2 weeks of the semester. After that point, only assessments from the last month of the semester can be retaken.
Homework and classwork are powerful tools for developing mastery. Because we want students to focus on developing mastery and showing that mastery on achievement assignments, we do not allow students to go back and make up old homework assignments after two class meetings from the time the homework was due.
Achievement Assignments
Students can then retake a second version of these assessments up until the last 2 weeks of the semester. After that point, only assessments from the last month of the semester can be retaken.
Performance Assessments & Projects
Late assignments will be docked 10 points.
Students can redo/revise these assignments within six weeks of the due date listed in Teacherease. There is no penalty for redoing an assignment; the full new score is entered in the gradebook.
