In the ECE Department’s 2016 spring retreat, program faculty discussed early adoption of ABET’s proposed new student outcomes 1-7. At that time, it was expected the new outcomes would be effective beginning in fall 2017. As the ECE Department was to host an ABET accreditation visit in the fall of 2016, faculty consented to adopting outcomes early with the expectation that we could develop new processes and tools and gather two full cycles of similar data rather than a cycle with one set of outcomes and a second cycle with all new outcomes.
In April 2017, program faculty were notified that ABET had delayed its implementation date and would not be publishing new student outcomes in fall 2017. Faculty reaffirmed their decision in a department meeting with a vote (see April 10, 2017 meeting minutes), agreeing to move forward as planned. This agreement was made with the understanding that additional changes to the language of proposed outcomes were possible. Further, all agreed we could adapt the language of our student outcomes and related tools as needed. Table 3-1 shows a map linking the outcomes adopted by the EE program and the official general criteria established by the EAC of ABET.
