6/20 Update

We began tagging fish again at Willow this week, and were able to catch one 25-inch rainbow to start off the season.

We also began snorkel surveys of random habitats to look at presence/absence and abundance of trout and other fish species. It was very cool to see our tagged fish underwater, and also saw many untagged bows, grayling, round whitefish, and even a couple king salmon. Next week I will try to shoot some underwater video of our tagged fish and maybe some of king salmon as well.

Next week we will continue tagging fish, and will also go up for an aerial survey of the entire Susitna drainage on Monday in order to find some of our more adventurous trout that have moved outside of Willow Creek.

Please note: Susitna basin King salmon fishing is now open only on weekends (Sat-Mon) for catch-and-release from 6AM to 11PM each day. The king season will be closed after June 30 (July 1-13).

These closures also prohibit fishing Tues-Fri for any species (including rainbow trout) within 1/4 mile of the Susitna River, and Willow Creek from the Parks Highway to the mouth.
