Information for Anglers

Anglers fishing Willow Creek, Deception Creek, the mouth of Willow where it enters the Susitna River, or other Susitna tributaries might catch a telemetry-tagged fish. A tagged fish would have a length of wire trailing from its body at a point just behind the pelvic fins (see below picture).

The fish will also have a colored Floy tag located near the dorsal fin that includes a numbered ID code (green tag in image below).

A fish that has had a tag recently implanted may exhibit a sutured incision on its belly area (see below). These fish should be handled very carefully as the sutured area is vulnerable and could be damaged by rough handling.

We ask that anglers please release tagged fish unharmed and with minimal handling. If you are able to record the number on the green Floy tag near the dorsal fin we would be very interested in receiving that information!

Report a Tagged Fish

If you record a Floy tag number from a tagged fish, please email a report including the tag number, date, location of catch, observed health of fish, method of capture, and any other information you would like to add. Please email to kmfraley@alaska.edu. We will be able to give you information about the fish you captured including date of tagging, sex of fish, and location tagged. Any reports would be greatly appreciated!
