Accommodation will be provided by YFAW to all participants at the Cairn and Osborne Hotels at no additional cost. All booking details will be arranged by the organising committee and participants do not need to book a room themselves.

Osborne hotel is an approximately 10-15-minute walk from Jesmond or West Jesmond Metro stations, which are themselves a short journey from the city centre, and Cairn hotel is a shorter (approx. 8-10-minute) walk to West Jesmond Metro station.

Our invited speakers will be staying at Motel One in the city centre, which is very close to both Central Station and Monument Metro station.

Travel

The Herschel building/the city centre is within walking distance (approx. a 20-minute walk)  from Newcastle Central station, but can also be reached by Metro, bus, or taxi. In the interest of environmental preservation, we encourage the use of public transport - in particular the highly useful Tyne and Wear Metro - over personal transportation whenever possible.

By Metro from Central Station:

At Central Metro station, board a train to towards either Airport or the Coast. Ride for two stops until you reach Haymarket station.  A single ticket for zone A will cost you £2.60, but if you will need or want to take the Metro to your hotel afterwards, we suggest you buy a day saver ticket for £4.10.

Exit Haymarket station and cross Percy Street at the pedestrian crossing immediately outside; directly opposite is Herschel Walk leading up to the Herschel building.

By bus from Central Station:

Walk from Central station to Westgate road and take either bus 10 or bus 11  to the Haymarket Barras Bridge bus stop.

The Herschel building is a 2-minute walk from this stop.

By taxi from Central Station:

A taxi rank is by the station exit on the right. Otherwise, various taxi apps will quickly connect you to a driver.
