Victoria Quigley (Sheffield) - "An introduction to coarse geometry"

Abstract

Coarse geometry is the "large-scale" geometry of spaces. In this talk, I will introduce some of the basic ideas of coarse geometry, beginning with the definition of a coarse map between metric spaces. We will conclude with a discussion of the coarse Baum-Connes conjecture and some of its applications. This talk will be elementary, and will assume no previous knowledge of coarse geometry.
