MKA: James Stanich III

Baron James Standish passed from our realm on August 9th, 2021 from complications resulting from Covid-19. He is survived by his daughter, Kathrine, his son, James, 8 grandchildren and 3 step grandchildren.

He joined the SCA in the early 80’s, receiving his AoA in 1986. He met the love of his life, Cathy, in 1990 through the SCA . He was squired to Sir Tancred Albrecht (Kree the Butcher), and a member of House GoldStar. He was a protégé to Master Guillermo da Firenza. He participated in Armored Combat, Combat Archery, Target Archery, Thrown Weapons and Rapier. He was the Barony of Wyvernwoode’s Baronial Knights Marshall and eventually Rapier Marshall. In 1997 he and Cathy moved to the Barony of Darkwater. He was Cadet to Don Alfric Northwind prior to being brought into the Order of the White Scarf Trimaris in 2002. He took 5 Cadets; Navah, Piper, Tim, his son James the IV, and Donatello. He served as Kingdom Rapier Marshall beginning 2003, and mentored many officers and artisans who continue to flourish. He stood behind many queens during his time in the SCA and urged his cadets to do the same. He was dedicated to Crown and Kingdom in his most active years. James will be remembered fondly by many and as a stubborn Spaniard by others. He will be missed.
