Big and brassy - can we fill in the recording gaps for the Scarletina Bolete?

Boletus luridiformis

As the fungal kingdom takes a deep breath in preparation for its main fruiting time, this month's profile fungus is the big and brassy Scarletina Bolete (Boletus luridiformis). With its very own party trick, this distinct species is given as common throughout the UK but seems to be under recorded in Scotland.

As usual, please keep an eye out for this fungus and then either let us know you've found it or submit the record to your local fungus group. Also, remember that the ever growing list of 'Fungus of the Month' profiles is available here, ordered alphabetically or by its highlight month. We are always keen to hear about new records for any of these species at any time.
