A great year for Boletes!

The boletes have been having a good year so far with further reports of Xerocomus bubalinusfrom Aberdeen and Edinburgh, Boletus luridus (fungus of the month) from Morrone and Craig Leek on Deeside and now two new sites for Boletus appendiculatus (left). This latter species is not commonly recorded in Scotland, having a more southern distribution of fruiting records. It has a mid brown cap, lovely yellow pores and stem/reticulation and flesh that hardly changes colour at all. These collections were from Crathes and Aberdeen both under mature broadleaves and were found during the excellent Boletes Workshop lead by Andy Taylor last weekend (Aug 13-15). Liz Holden
