Handbrake and Shifter Handle Modification - 11/2010

The Factory Five kit was true to the original Cobras by having the handbrake located on the passenger side of the transmission tunnel, but that location just is not as practical as having it located on the top of the transmission tunnel, where handbrakes are typically located on modern cars. We decided to change the location to the top. This meant that Jim had to cut the steel and aluminum where it was intended to be located, and mount it on top.

The shifter handle was also installed to see if a mid-shifter would be necessary. Jim discovered that the current, intended placement of the shifter would make shifting almost impossible. So we will continue to wait for the mid-shifter that is on back-order which will place the shifter further up the transmission tunnel and in an upright position, making it easier to move.

It is difficult to see the modification clearly in this picture, but the lower right side of the picture shows the area where the brake was, and, of course, you can see where he has now mounted the brake on the top of the tunnel.
