July Week 3 Update
Marching Band Members and Parents,
I hope everyone is making the most of this summer! This is right around the time where a lot of our prep for the season begins to occur, so please read all the words in this update and let me know if you have any questions :-) As always, all files are available in our Google Drive.
Rehearsal is tomorrow night, 6-9 PM!
Cleared List
The fall cleared list is now available - THIS IS STILL A WORK IN PROGRESS! Each day our athletic trainer enters new cleared names across all Kingsway athletic teams. DON'T PANIC if you registered and turned in your physical but don't see your name yet - there will still be some time before your name gets added. (Seriously, don't panic - right now there are only a couple people on it, but I know many more than that have finished everything!) Click here to view the cleared list.
All Kingsway students are now able to be registered and should do so ASAP by starting at this link.
For more information on registration, check out my registration update.
Physicals are due to the school on 8/1 - TWO WEEKS FROM TODAY! If you have not scheduled/received your physical yet, it's officially crunch time. Remember, if you can't book an appointment, Inspira Urgent Cares offer walk-in physicals for $35.
Drum Corps International (DCI) Comes to Rowan 8/2!
DCI is the highest level of the marching arts and is in large part what we model our program and competitive shows off of. These performances are unlike anything you've ever seen before and are sure to take your breath away, and for the second time ever, the DCI summer tour will be at Rowan University in two weeks! If you haven't already, take advantage of this life changing opportunity and buy tickets at this link!
Parent Meeting 8/3 at 7:30
Parents, please plan to attend - we will discuss many things to help prepare for the season such as band camp, volunteer information, Thanksgiving Parade information and more! We will end right at 9 so you can leave straight from rehearsal with your student.
Health and Nutrition
It's really hot out. Frequent hydration and eating foods packed with nutrients is crucial to staying healthy, avoiding sickness/injury, and being successful this summer and it starts NOW! Please see this handy quick-read Nutrition for Marching Arts Eating Guide for a guide on energizing and healthy foods for Marching Band. We'll be reviewing this as a full band tomorrow night and again before band camp.
Misc.
Shoutout to our drum majors Katie Sabo, Sophia Counsellor, and Cole Lang, who will be leaving tomorrow to attend the four day legendary Drum Major Academy program held at Rider University! This program has been a life changing experience for all who went through it and is sure to set our drum majors, and therefore our band, up for huge success! Major props to them for taking the time out of their summer to attend alongside hundreds of drum majors from all over!!!
A reminder that performance shoes and one tour shirt will be provided by the school district free of charge to members this year! Members will be able to try on shoes at rehearsal next week where we will confirm sizes for their shoe and shirt order. Vets who already have shoes that fit and are in good condition are not required to get a new pair. Info on color guard shoes is coming soon!
