2022 student leadership

Drum Major - Jason Zheng

“Hey everyone! My name is Jason, and I am super excited to be a drum major for our 2022 season! This is my fifth and final year being a part of the marching band as well as my third year being a part of the leadership team. Last year I had the opportunity of being the Woodwind Captain and Saxophone Section Leader and the year before I was the Low Saxophone Section Leader. I have played tenor sax for all four of my years in marching band so far. Outside of marching band, I am a member of Kingsway’s Select Jazz Ensemble where I also play tenor sax. I like to stay involved around Kingsway, so you’ll definitely see me around a lot! In addition, I am very proud to be marching mellophone with the Reading Buccaneers drum and bugle corps for their 2022 season. With my great experiences in the marching arts so far, I am looking forward to working with this amazing leadership team, staff, and this entire marching band to put a great show on the field this year!”

Assistant Drum Major - Katie Sabo

Hi! My name is Katie Sabo. I’m a junior, and this will be my fourth year in marching band. I am so thrilled to be Assistant Drum Major for the 2022 season! I’ve been playing clarinet for about 8 years now, and over those years I’ve picked up various other instruments, including guitar, percussion, and tenor saxophone. I am a very active member of Kingsway’s music program outside of marching band, participating in musical, choir, concert band and, this upcoming year, jazz! I truly can’t wait for another great season with everyone - I LOVE MARCHING BAND! :)

Woodwind Captain - Maddie Hesson

Hey! I'm Maddie, this marching band season's woodwind captain. This will be my fourth and final year with this wonderful ensemble and I'm very excited to use it to help others around me excel! This year I will be marching alto saxophone: contrary to my previous years where I marched tenor. Other than those instruments, I play soprano saxophone, guitar, flute, and I am currently learning marching percussion. I hope to take this passion further in my life by eventually becoming a music teacher, doing very similar things to this. Overall, I'm very grateful to spend my final year trying to help and inspire the people in our band.

Brass Captain - Rochelle Dush

Hi! I’m Rochelle Dush, the 2022 brass captain. I’ve played trumpet since the fifth grade and am apart of the 22-23 select jazz band. Joining marching band was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I’m looking forward to all the great things to come this season.

Flute Section Leader - Jessica Blanda

Hi! I’m Jessica Blanda and I’m going to be a junior this year. I have been in marching band since eighth grade and I have been playing the flute since fifth grade. Outside of band, I have a passion for singing and dancing and have been in countless school musical productions starting from elementary school and continuing through high school. I am thrilled to get to know all of you, and I can’t wait for the season ahead of us!

Clarinet Section Leader - Alexis Trippel

Hello everyone, my name is Alexis! I am going to be a senior this upcoming year. I march clarinet and this is going to be my fifth year of being in the marching band! I currently attend RCSJ for engineering and plan on applying elsewhere to further my education. I am excited to see what this marching band season holds!

Alto Sax Section Leader - Ryan Kaplow

Tenor Saxophone Section Leader - Gavin Brooks

My name is Gavin Brooks! This is my second year of marching band and I’m so excited to be tenor sax section leader this season!

Trumpet Section Leader - Chris Gasparon

Hello, I’m Chris Gasparon and this will be my 5th year playing the trumpet in the Kingsway Marching band. I also play the trumpet for the concert band and this next year I’m exploring the world of jazz. In addition to music I consider myself to be a huge sports fan especially Philly teams. Finally, I am very enthusiastic about this marching season because of the amazing people who have been an influence on me. I hope I can do the same for incoming members.

Mellophone Section Leader - Sophia Counsellor

Hey, I’m Sophia Counsellor, the mellophone section leader. I play mellophone in marching band and guitar in jazz band along with some other instruments outside of those two! I love everything and anything that has to do with music and I’m really looking forward to this season :)

Low Brass Section Leader - Reagan Mooney

Hey everyone! I’m going into my sophomore year of high school, and my 3rd year of Marching Band. I have only been playing tuba for a short period of time, but I have absolutely fallen in love with it since I first picked it up. In school, I also play the baritone saxophone as well as the bass trombone, which I play in Kingsway’s own Select Jazz Ensemble. I can’t wait to bring the energy this year! LET’S GO LOW BRASS!!!

Battery Percussion Captain - Ryan Stanley

Hi! I’m Stanley, and I have the incredible opportunity to be the drumline captain for the battery this year! This will be my 5th, and final year in drumline, and I could not be more excited for this season. Aside from marching band, I have been learning how to drum for 8 years, and I’m a member of both the high school Jazz Band and high school Percussion Ensemble. I have a huge passion for music, and joining marching band has certainly had a large impact on my life with hundreds of memories to remember it by. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone play and put together another amazing show this season!

Battery Percussion Captain - VJ LaMonaca

Hi! My name is Vincent LaMonaca but most people know me as VJ. I am a senior and this will be my fourth year of marching band. I am excited to be a drumline section leader for the quad and flubline. I’ve been playing drums for most of my life and I currently play for both the marching band and the percussion ensemble at Kingsway. Outside of band I compete for the Kingsway track and field team as a shot-putter. I am very excited for my senior year and I can’t wait to perform this year's show!

Battery Percussion Captain - Lilly Matthias

Hi, I'm Lilly Matthias. I am bass captain for the 2022 marching band season. I joined marching band in 8th grade, and now I am entering Junior year with my very own leadership position. I started out in the front ensemble, playing the glockenspiel for the 2019 season. Since I could only play the glockenspiel at shows, I would dance with the color guard at football games and march trumpet during parades. After being apart of basically every part of the band, I decided I wanted to be in drumline. And here I am, bass captain! I can't wait to see what this year will bring.

Logistics Coordinator - Nate Blum

Howdy, I’m Nathan J Blum also known as Builder or PLC. I’m a senior and this will be my 5th year in the Marching Band. I was in pit my 8th grade year and I’ve been in Drumline for 4 years now. I’m happy to be the Percussion logistic Coordinator for the 2022-2023 season. I’m very active with volunteering at all the music program events and playing in percussion ensemble and concert band. I'm excited to have a great last season with such a great group of people.

Rhythm Section Captain - Danny Allen

Hey everyone my name is Danny Allen, and this year I will be leading the rhythm section. This will be my fifth year in the marching band and my second year in a leadership position. Out of all my years in the marching band, this is my only year not marching, and instead of marching trumpet, I will be playing keyboards. I’ve been taking music lessons since I was five on the piano, and I started playing the trumpet in the fifth grade. Although those are my two main instruments, I enjoy playing others as well as singing. In my free time, I enjoy playing with my band, along with going for bike rides. My favorite genre of music, by far, is any kind of Jazz Fusion/ Jazz. I’m incredibly excited to be the leader of the featured rhythm section during my senior year, and I cannot wait!

Electronics Coordinator - Liam Casey

My name is Liam Casey and this will be my fourth year in the Marching Band. I marched tenor saxophone during my freshman year and marched both tenor saxophone and guitar last season. Outside of marching band, I play guitar in both the select jazz ensemble as well as in a separate band outside of school. Marching band is indescribably important to me and I cannot wait to see what the upcoming season has in store!

Front Ensemble Captain - Kirsten Nelson

Kirsten is a rising senior entering her fifth marching season and third season as a Front Ensemble section leader. She has been playing piano for 9 years, percussion for 7 years, and learning guitar. She has been involved in the Percussion Ensemble class since her freshman year, performing multiple marimba and vibrephone parts, including a solo at the 2021 winter concert. During her time in pit, Kirsten has played the synth, vibraphone, and center marimba.  Outside of music, Kirsten is involved in Kingsway’s Unify programs as well as a local robotics team called the LUNATECS, who made it to the FIRST World Championships in Houston, TX. She is excited to lead the pit for her senior year as Kingsway makes the return to the Atlantic Coast Championships.

Color Guard Captain - Maggie Reinerth

Hey everyone! My name is Maggie Reinerth and I'm thrilled to be going into my junior year as head colorguard captain. This will be my third season performing at Kingsway and my first year being a part of the leadership team. I have absolutely loved every moment I've been in this program and the thrill of this sport. It was exciting to follow up a state championship with Kingsway by completing an indoor season with Surge Independent and becoming 2022 ACCs champions. I am so so sooo excited for this season and I can't wait to get to know more of you and share in another great season.

Color Guard Co-Captain - Elise Daliessio

I’ve done dance classes since I was two years old and specifically love tap. My other hobbies include art and petting my cats. I’m so excited for this season and to be on this amazing team.
