ch2 density lab

online learning; find some things at home that have a mass and volume (you can calculate volume for boxes); if it is english system change it to si system, record mass, volume and density on this form. at home chemistry density lab; Do at least 5 objects, two can be the objects we do together in class. When done, you can start on the rest of the lab below; put the calculations in your notebook.

later, maybe we will do some of the following

Instructions for the density lab:

Calculate the density from lab measurements of the following: lead shot, square wood, rectangle wood, 10.0 mL water, 80. mL water, alcohol, air, and saltwater, filling in the table below. Both you and your lab partner fill in a table. Show how you did the work.

•Look up actual densities on ch2 density ws or on the internet (saltwater 1.13g/mL & oak wood 0.77g/cm3), and record on results table. calculate % error. Don't know how to do percent error? Look in textbook (p43 etext) p45 paper text. Record required data on this form. Answer conclusion questions.

didn't have time to get some measurements? absent? use my data: density data if needed

Density Lab Name _______________________

Calculations: Show the formulas you used, and your work

Conclusion:

Record required data on this form. Does the shape of wood affect density? What is your evidence? Does the amount of water affect density? What is your evidence? From your lab experience, what do you think the density of 100mL of saltwater would be? From your lab experience, what would the density of 1000mL of alcohol be? Why? Would the blocks used in this experiment float in water? What is your evidence? What do you think the density of human beings is? What is your evidence? Which graduated cylinder is best to use? Why? How many lead shot is best to use? Why? How does the density of air compare to other densities you found? Why?

look at class data (not available until day after lab)
