Palaeolithic Plaquettes

Matt Amy - Undergraduate Student

An undergraduate student, Matt Amy, looked into the production and deposition of Magdelenian Plaquettes for his final year dissertation. Plaquettes are sections of engraved limestone that are often found within a hearth context and display signs of having been heated.

Matt undertook several experiments, having volunteers inscribe artwork onto the surfaces of the limestone, before heating them in several configurations to assess the heating patterns.
