Public Engagement

Educational Visits

As a discipline that works with both academic evidence and hands-on practical experience, experimental archaeology is well placed to deliver interesting and exciting forms of education.

The YEAR Centre itself is a great resource for teaching children about craft work, direct sensory engagements with history and experiencing material properties.

Outdoor teaching also brings positive benefits by itself, allowing students to focus more deeply, reduce their use of technology and providing a calm relaxing environment.

Please get in touch for more information relating to educational visits to the YEAR Centre.

Key Stage 2 & 3 Resources

There is a requirement for prehistory to be taught as part of the general History curriculum and we aim to support delivery through the provision of lesson plans and activities for KS 2 & 3. Get in touch for more information.

Festival Participation

Members of the YEAR team are frequently involved in running stalls at festivals, focussing on different aspects of our work and experimental archaeology. Events take place around York throughout the year, including Festival of Ideas, YorNight, and Pint of Science. Look out for our stall at the next research festival in York that you attend!
