Barbed Points

Barbed Points

A huge quantity of antler barbed points have been found at Star Carr and other Mesolithic sites. These are carved from red deer antler using flint and are very time consuming to produce.

As part of the experiments into the material culture of Star Carr, our YEAR Centre researchers replicated the barbed points and investigated the hypothesis that these were harpoons used for close range bow fishing.
