Welcome to The Math Matrix—a creative and exciting math lab where students explore, build, and challenge themselves at their own pace! Designed for middle school learners who want to review important skills, stretch their problem-solving muscles, or move ahead, this class blends real-world challenges with logic puzzles, design thinking, and personal choice.

Each two-week session focuses on a unique theme, giving students the freedom to explore math in ways that are fun, meaningful, and full of discovery:

Session 1
June 16 - 26

Crack the Code –

Logic, Puzzles, and Patterns

Get ready to stretch your brain and have fun doing it! In this exciting session, students will become “code crackers” as they explore the world of puzzles, patterns, and logical thinking. Each day is filled with hands-on challenges like Sudoku, brain teasers, riddles, and pattern games that help students strengthen their problem-solving skills in a creative way.

They’ll learn how to think like detectives—spotting patterns, making predictions, and working through tricky logic challenges. By the end of the session, each student will create their very own puzzle or logic game to challenge classmates in a special “Puzzle Showcase.”

This class builds confidence, sharpens math thinking, and encourages teamwork—all while having a blast!

Data Detectives –

Numbers in the Real World

Put on your thinking caps and grab your magnifying glass—it’s time to become a Data Detective! In this session, students will explore how numbers help us understand the world around us. Whether it’s tracking trends in sports, analyzing school survey results, or making graphs about favorite foods, campers will collect and crunch real data in fun and creative ways.

By the end of the session, each student will complete a personal data project—complete with colorful graphs and eye-catching visuals—to share what they’ve discovered. It’s math with a mission and numbers with a story!

This session builds math confidence, sharpens critical thinking, and turns everyday questions into exciting investigations.

Build It & Budget –

Applied Math Challenge

Time to put math to work! In this hands-on session, students become designers, planners, and smart shoppers as they take on real-world challenges. Whether they're creating a dream bedroom, planning a party, or building a tiny home, students will use math skills to measure spaces, calculate costs, compare prices, and stay on budget.

Each day brings a new activity that connects math to everyday life—making it meaningful and fun! Students will finish the session by presenting their custom design and budget plan to classmates in a creative "Budget Fair."

This session boosts confidence in practical math, encourages creativity, and helps students see how math is everywhere—from the store to the blueprint!
