In Cultural Kaleidoscope, campers become global explorers—celebrating the diversity of our world through art, traditions, and storytelling. Each session spotlights a different aspect of culture, offering hands-on projects, engaging media, and powerful stories that build curiosity, empathy, and understanding across borders. From ancient art to modern festivals, students will discover how culture shapes identity and connects us all.

Session 1
June 16 - 26

The Language of Art

Driving Question:

How do cultures express identity through visual art?

Get ready to travel the world without leaving the classroom! In this colorful session, campers will explore how different cultures use art to tell stories, share beliefs, and express identity. From ancient indigenous designs to bold contemporary masterpieces, we’ll discover the rich variety of visual traditions across five world regions.

Through virtual museum tours and hands-on exploration, students will create their own mixed-media artwork inspired by a cultural style of their choice. Each piece will be accompanied by a student-written placard, and the session will culminate in a vibrant “Kaleidoscope Art Gallery” showcase for friends and family to enjoy.

Flavors of the World

Driving Question:

What can we learn about a culture through its food?

Calling all curious chefs and global foodies! In this deliciously fun session, campers will explore how food connects us to culture, geography, and community. From the fields where ingredients grow to the tables where meals are shared, we’ll dig into the stories behind traditional dishes from three continents.

Through food-themed geography games, spice-tasting (no cooking or heat!), and hands-on research, students will investigate how food reflects history, climate, and values. They’ll choose one traditional dish to spotlight and create a recipe storyboard that shows its cultural roots and ingredients.

The session wraps up with a collaborative “Food & Culture Zine” — a student-designed magazine filled with colorful recipe art, fun facts, and cultural flavor from around the globe!

Traditions in Motion

Driving Question: How do stories and celebrations connect people across the globe?

Get ready to move, make, and celebrate! In this lively session, campers will take a global journey through music, dance, and storytelling by exploring vibrant celebrations like Holi in India, Lunar New Year in China, Carnival in Brazil, and Día de los Muertos in Mexico. Through hands-on activities, they’ll create cultural celebration kits that may include music, masks, or scripts for storytelling skits.
