The Functional Life Skills (FLS) Program addresses the individual needs of students with developmental disabilities, who demonstrate delays in academic skills and adaptive functioning (i.e., skills of daily living necessary to function in everyday environments). Students in the FLS Program have been identified as exceptional through the IPRC identification process. This program is delivered at the home school in an integrated setting, up to the age of 21. In consultation with parents/guardians and the student, a program plan is developed by school staff that reflects the student’s learning profile. Any accommodations and alternative programming, along with individualized instructions and equipment, are recorded in the Individual Education Plan (IEP).
Pathways for Students in the Functional Life Skills Program
Due to the unique and diverse needs of students diagnosed with a Developmental Disability, students in the FLS Program may choose to pursue one of the three pathways , or a combination of them, after high school. They are all valued equally.
This pathway prepares students to enter a community-based program, such recreational programs and volunteer opportunities, upon graduation. They will work towards the attainment of a Certificate of Accomplishment.
