Welcome to the St. Elizabeth Catholic High School Student Services Department website.  At St. Elizabeth, we recognize that learning styles and educational needs are unique for each student. As such, we strive to ensure all of our students are provided with the most enabling learning environment possible and we endorse the integration of all learners and implementation of integration practices.  This learning environment is one where students' academic, physical, spiritual, social, and emotional needs are met, with support, in the classroom and beyond.

Whether you are just starting out your high school journey or are beginning the transition to post-secondary, it is our aim to provide you with the resources and support you need to be successful.

What is Special Education?

According to the York Catholic District School Board website, Special Education refers to those educational programs and services based on and adapted by continuous assessment and evaluation which meet the needs of exceptional pupils. Special Education involves the application of programs used for all students, though the speed of delivery, manner of service, placement or setting, teaching style, and other variables are tailored to the individual needs of the student.

The Role of the Parent

Parents play an important part of the process throughout the stages of delivery of Special Education Programs and Services. Parents are invited to meet with teachers to discuss the Individual Education Plan (IEP) that will be individually formulated for their child. Parents are invited to participate in Identification and Placement meetings and in the Review of Placement meeting which is held at least once year. Parental input is a crucial at each stage of the process to improve student learning. Click here for more information about the IPRC process.

The Parent's Guide to Special Education will provide you with a detailed explanation of what happens at each of these meetings as well as a list of services provided by the YCDSB and various resources available.
