I’m most proud of my narrative mug because it’s the most meaningful to me. I love the idea of having a specific story connected to a piece of art, and after spending so much time on it as well, I’ve grown to really love it. I also love getting to see the work of other artists, whether that be watching a video, passing around finished work by other students, or checking out posters and presentations, I always take away inspiration and ideas for new projects. My hopes for this class have definitely been fulfilled; looking at my initial statement, I ended up using the color palettes and designs I had written about a lot in my work. One of the most exciting things about this class, for me, was creating things I would be able to make useful. I’m coming away with things like mugs and pots that I know I’ll use all the time, which is a fantastic feeling!
Ceramics is a three-dimensional art form which I’m not used to but am looking forward to learning more about. In that way, it’s different to a lot of art forms, but similar to things like sculpture. It also lends itself well to other art forms like painting and photography. So far this semester, I have been most inspired by the little bowls and cups we’ve seen, so I would love to make something like that! I’ve also loved anything with floral patterns and earth tones. In this class, I would love to make things that I know I’ll use because it seems so cool to have made the things you use every day!
