Question 1:
I think something that I've been improving with is using different values of marks in the correct places to show lighting and shadows. At the beginning of our Drawing and Painting unit, I had trouble fading from a darker to a lighter value but found a lighter-to-darker fade a little easier. I've worked on that during our last two classes when we went around the tables trying different techniques, and I think it's definitely helped me improve. I am also learning what techniques I'm enjoying more than others. For example, I find controlled scribbling and stippling a lot of fun but am having a harder time getting the hang of cross-hatching. I think this is because I'm still getting used to cross-hatching with different values, but I'm also working on improving with this. In terms of placement and angles, I'm finding the sighting technique that we recently learned super helpful, and I'm enjoying getting to know this strategy for drawing with correct proportions. I find ellipses a fun challenge because I haven't done a lot with them in the past, but our last few classes drawing cans have helped me get used to them.
Question 2:
I think I still need to work on ellipses because I have not done a lot with them in the past. With mark-making, I think I could use a little more practice with cross-hatching in different values, especially blending multiple values together. Shadows are another thing I'm focusing a lot on, but I think getting practice with the lights during our last few classes. The new sighting technique has also been really helpful with angles and placement, and I know I'll be using it a lot in the future.
