To create a still-life drawing that demonstrates understanding of angles & ellipses in perspective, along with using a chosen and conscious mark-making technique to describe form.
To understand value by creating a good range of values between black & white to help make the objects appear 3D.
To demonstrate quality craftsmanship and good composition skills in a drawing.
Question 1:
I used the stippling technique in my final drawing because I liked the control I had with making darker and lighter areas. Vincent Van Gogh did some stippling, which I looked at during the process of completing this assignment. I thought this technique took some time to do compared to others, but being adjustable when creating different values made up for it, not to mention being a fun way to create a drawing.
Question 2:
Looking at my pre-instructional drawing, my proportions were okay, although some of my angles were very inaccurate. I can tell that I was looking at the objects as what they looked like in my head instead of following their lines and replicating them exactly. This is something I improved on through the course of this unit, and it made my drawings much better. This unit felt like a bigger one for me because drawing still lifes has always been something I've struggled with, so the start of this unit was a little intimidating. I was excited to improve but also nervous to do so much of something outside my comfort zone. This unit ended up being a lot of fun, and I learned so much. My still life drawings have completely transformed, and it's still hard to believe the progress I've made in the last few weeks.
