Purpose: Make a slab mug that demonstrates connecting slabs securely, creating and attaching a handle, and illustrates a personal narrative. This should be done through the handle, textures, added-on features and/or glazing.
The story that my mug tells is when I went on a 5-month trip (in 5th grade) to many different places all over the world, I loved this trip so much and I will always remember it. There were so many amazing memories on this trip and I love how I captured that in my Mug. The small slabs are placed where I visited, and painted on them are a memory that only my family would fully understand. I also painted a map of the world all over the mug so make a clear visual. There is a plane on top of my handle with a trail that travels all over my mug and hits each of the places I visited. All around the land, I used a tool to carve around it to create an effect to make it look like it is popping out. When it came to glazing I used a blue (Sapphire 0-23) and green (light green 42) that wouldn’t perfectly cover the mug, this way it shows light and dark spots just like you would see on a map. I used pink (dusty rose) on the inside to create contrast between the inside and outside. There is a black dot that I placed on Maine to show the starting point. The colors I picked for the memories were colors that made sense for the drawing.
I think something cool that I could have added was a slab over Maine with a painting of a home on top, to show the starting point more clearly. Something else I think would have made my story more clear is adding dates next to each of the slabs, showing the day I got there and the day I left. But other than that I really like how my mug isn’t overwhelming and it is very clear.
