Purpose: Explore pinching a sculpture, texturing slabs, and utilizing glaze techniques
There are many things I learned about clay construction, something really surprising that I learned you could do with clay, is being able to work on the piece for multiple days. When the clay is in its “plastic” form it is able to still be constructed and formed. Another thing I learned is that you can’t move fast when working with clay, clay needs patience. When you move clay around too fast it begins to crack and when clay starts to crack it gets harder to mold and construct. Another thing about clay construction is there are so many different shapes and pieces you can create with just one small piece of clay.
So many things surprise me with glazing! For starters when you first paint on the glaze it is a completely different color or shade before it is fired. Something that surprised me is if you use too much glaze or have too many layers the glaze can pool up at the bottom of the pot and start to boil. Layering glazes is another way to create different colors and cool effects on your piece, I also learned what colors mix well together and which don’t. There are many more things that I need to learn and I would love to learn, including new ways to put on the glaze and create new effects.
