Spring 2023
The piece I am most proud of would be the Narrative Slab Mug. I worked very hard on all parts of the mug and came in out of class to work on it. This project was really fun to do, because we got to tell a story/memory through a piece of art. I am also very proud of how it turned out in the end, I like the glazes that I used, and I really like the shape of my mug. I also spent a lot of time making the small details on the white boxes all around my mug, each representing a memory.
I think one of the most informative projects that we did would be the slab box/house, in this assignment there were many different parts, which helped us learn and grow our artistic skills in ceramics. Those being, carving, texture, glazing, slabs, and telling a story. Another informative thing would be watching the pueblo video, and seeing how they created these detailed pieces of art during that time period. It also helped us later when we started to create out pueblo and design the shape. We learned tons of new techniques this semester, and both of these project/things helped me grow as a ceramic student.
I met my hopes and goals perfectly. I wrote that I hoped to make a mug or bowl and I did both of those. I also stated how I believe that nature and memories will help me create my artwork, and that is exactly what I did. Almost all my pieces are inspired by a memory or some part of nature. Another goal of mine was to make sure I never turned in anything late, and I stuck to that goal and made sure everything was turned in and finished on time!
First thoughts and Goals
Ceramics is a 3rd form of art that you can touch and see from all sides. Whereas painting and drawing, you are painting on one surface. There are many steps when it comes to ceramics because you have to let the clay dry and fire it, though, in other forms of art, there are fewer steps. There are many similarities though, like how every art uses creativity. To stay organized, I will write down all the work that needs to be done and ask for help when needed. I will also always check the landing doc 2 days before class so I am prepared, as well as always double-check that I am all caught up on work. I think many things will inspire me, I feel like nature and memories are a huge part of art and can make your art unique. Also because there are so many surfaces when using clay, I may look at other people's art that has been made in the past to give me some inspiration. I would like to make some sort of mug or bowl or something that can hold an object.
