Google Chat
During this time of Distance Learning, our campus has moved to Google Chat as one of our main ways of communication. Chat has a lot of benefits over traditional email. When you email, you would have to wait for the person to check their email and then respond. With Chat, it comes in like a text message, so if you are on your phone you can quickly respond. If you are on your computer you can see you have a message and respond accordingly.
Some other benefits:
Chat integrates with Google Drive seamlessly. Share files directly in Chat and adjust any share settings in Chat.
Create Groups that allow for collaboration between departments or create one for each of your classes.
Start a Meet directly in Chat.
Students don't check their email as much as we want them too. They are used to messaging apps. Chat could be a more effective way of communicating to students.
I would recommend installing Chat on your phone and pinning it to your task bar on your computer.
This video will walk you through how to install Google Chat as a web app, pin it to the task bar, and see the unread notifications.
It is strongly recommended that you follow this video so that you can have your Google Chat ready when you are working.
