#1 Activity: Learning Resource Center
1. Are the learning resources/materials arranged properly according to their functions and characteristics? Describe.
Yes, the learning materials are arranged according to their functions with labels under them so that the teachers and students can easily find their needed material in the Learning Resource Center. There are plenty of shelves and the books are separated from the audio visual materials which means it is organized in a way that it won’t be a problem in locating the needed resources.
2. Do the guidelines facilitate easy access to the materials by the teachers? Why? Or Why not?
Yes, the guidelines facilitate easy access to the materials because everything is organized according to their function and it is easy for the teachers to find their needed learning materials in the setup of their Learning Resource Center. There are separated shelves for the students and teachers in the intention of catering to all their needs an there won’t be any problem.
3. What are the strengths and weaknesses of the LRC?
The strengths of their LRC is that it is very organized and there are a lot of learning resources that the teachers and students can choose from. There are different variations with matching labels for convenience of all. The LRC is also very spacious and there are long tables with chairs for everyone to use. The only weakness that I see from their LRC is that the light inside is not enough to cater the spacious room.
4. What suggestions can you make?
In connection to the weakness that I have observed in their LRC, I suggest that they put more lights inside the center so that it would be bright enough for the teachers and students to read to since the light coming from outside is dimmed because there are small windows inside.
#2 Activity: Familiarization of Online Platforms for Young Children
1. Analyzing the information you get from the demo in the link above, surf the internet to select electronic resources, OERs, social networking sites and apps with virtual augmented reality that will be useful in the teaching of the same lesson.
2. Evaluate at least 5 resources you have found using the set of criteria discussed in the Learning Essentials.
3. Use the form below to note your analysis and evaluation.
#1 Activity Reflection
1. Which of the materials in the LRC caught your interest the most? Why?
The materials that caught my interest most in the LRC are the CDs and cassette tapes on a particular shelf, the well-arranged books in the shelves, and the cabinet full of library cards. The CDs and cassettes caught my interest because living in the 21st century, these are very rare to find and seeing them inside an LRC brings nostalgia in me. For the books on the shelves, it is very organized with labels that is why it caught my attention. Lastly, library cards on the cabinet fascinated me because I remember the day where I borrowed books from the very own LRC of ICES because I am an alumni there.
2. Which gadgets/materials are you already confident to use/operate?
The gadgets that I am confident to use are the laptop, cell phone, speaker, and television,. I can operate these materials when I will be given the chance to practice teach along with these resources.
3. Which ones do you feel you need to learn more about?
I feel like I need to learn more about working with the projectors because it is vital today that we use projectors to project the screen that we have on our laptops. The skill in operating a projector is a must especially when we are teaching.
#2 Activity Reflection
1. Describe your experience in surfing the internet for appropriate electronic resources for the class? What made it easy? Difficult?
In finding appropriate electronic resources, the easy part is that there were so many resources to begin with and it offers wide range of activities and videos for children to interact with. On the other hand, the difficult part of it was to really look for an electronic resource that is suitable for your lesson or appropriate for the learners.
2. How did you choose which electronic resources to include here? What did you consider? Explain.
I chose the electronic resources by going on to their website and downloading the applications to really know what the resource is all about. I considered the effectivity of it to the learners whether it is engaging for them. Another thing is the age appropriateness and if it is suitable for kindergarten students to interact with. Lastly, the availability of it in certain devices is also one of the things that I considered.
3. Reflect on your technology skills. What skills do you already have, and what skills would you like to continue to work on to be better at utilizing education 4.0 resources?
The skills that I already have are knowing how to operate certain devices that can be utilized in the learning process and navigating through the different electronic resources such as websites and applications. They are also the skills that I would like to continue improving to utilize ICT resources in education.
