Choose a time
Take into consideration all aspects of the event you are planning: time of year, upcoming holidays, other tournaments in the surrounding area, the capacity of your venue, your ability to pay out the minimum prize pool, etc. All these factors will impact what level of tournament you can/should host.
Consider putting a cap on the number of throwers, especially if you have not run a larger tournament before or have a smaller venue
Use the Tournament Time Estimator to help you decide what the cap for your registrations should be.
Starting small and building up allows your venue to learn and grow into reputable tournament hosts, both within WATL and the community of throwers.
If your venue has not run a tournament before, it is recommended that you start by running an unsanctioned tournament with local league members. If that goes well, apply to run a sanctioned Local Tournament.
Understand how seeding works and posted deadlines
The deadline for seeding your tournament is 72 hours before your tournament start time, so plan accordingly with closing registrations.
If any Local tournaments wish to keep registrations open until the day of their event, please contact the Tournament Manager at tournaments@worldaxethrowingleague.com for approval.
Regional and National Tournaments are required to seed 72 hours in advance, no exceptions.
Determine your prize pool (if above the posted minimum requirement)
