The app does not order matches in the best way they should be played, especially for larger tournaments. Below is a simple guide on how to monitor matches to ensure they are being pushed in a timely and fair manner. NOTE: pushing matches means to click the Play Match button in the Added Games section to move it into the Now Playing section.
Each bracket is labeled by round and match number. ex) A1-1 is the first match in the first bracket round. A2-1 is the first match in the second bracket round, etc
There are 3 principles to remember when it comes to efficient bracket management:
Play A1 and A2 bracket rounds first (unless you have a perfect bracket, see videos below)
Once you start playing B bracket matches in B1, ALWAYS play B matches until you can’t play any further, then go back to A
B bracket matches are shaded blue, so you will be able to easily distinguish A from B matches. Play until no more blue shaded matches show.
For every B match that is populated, that is how many lanes should be running
i.e. there are 8 B bracket matches, and 4 A bracket matches populated. There should only be 8 open lanes playing the B bracket matches
The A bracket matches are only to be played AFTER the B matches are finished
To learn more about bracket management, take a look at the videos linked here and the accompanying slides.
Reference the time estimations found in the Details & Roster tab of the Roster template spreadsheet to ensure that your venue can accommodate the number of participants and disciplines that you plan to host.
When calculating, be sure to include extra time for lane maintenance, board changes, meal breaks, and final check-ins for other disciplines (if applicable), as the times estimated are game times only.
It is highly recommended NOT to have any tournament go late into the evening.
