ML Courses

Beginner ML

0.5 or 1.0 credit - Grades 9-12

Prerequisite: WIDA Placement

Students who score an average of 1 on the WIDA assessment will be required to take this course. The primary focus is speaking, reading, writing and listening in English with fluency in social and academic communication skills. This class will prepare students to transition to the Intermediate ELL course. 

Intermediate ML

0.5 or 1.0 credit - Grades 9-12

Prerequisite: WIDA Placement

Students who score an average of 2.5 on the WIDA assessment will be required to take this course.  The primary focus will be to continue speaking, reading, writing and listening in English and incorporate academic language in order to be more successful in their content area classes.  The class will prepare students to transition to the Advanced ELL course. 

Advanced ML

0.5 or 1.0 credit - Grades 9-12

Prerequisite: WIDA Placement

Students who score an average of 3.5 on the WIDA assessment will be selected to take this course based on an individual basis. The primary focus will be to exhibit proficiency in speaking, reading, writing and listening in English, both socially and academically. The class will prepare students to graduate from the State-mandated ELL program. 

ML Math

1.0 credit - Grades 9-12

Prerequisite: WIDA Placement

Personalized math applications based on the student's previous understanding of mathematical content in their primary language. 

Peer Tutor for ML

0.5 or 1.0 credit - Grades 9-12

Prerequisite: WIDA Placement

Students that have passed the Spanish language proficiency assessment will be able to help translate and assist lower English proficiency students in ELL class and/or in their general education classes.
