In this class students will learn how to safely use power and hand tools used in the construction industry. They will learn about measuring, blueprints, foundations, wood framing, siding, roofing, electrical, plumbing, and interior finish work. Students will build cedar planter boxes, bird houses/feeders, wooden frames, sheds, etc. for measuring and woodworking skill advancement. The final goal is to have the students advance their skills enough to build a tiny home. If you want to work with wood then this is the class for you.

This is a continuation of automotive maintenance 1. In this class students will continue to learn the ins and outs of the automobile. Articulation LCC (5 credits for AMTC 100: Essentials of Mechanics) Auto 1 and 2 need to both be taken to earn the LCC credit.

Students will learn how to use the ARC (stick) welder and Oxygen Acetylene (Gas) welding, soldering, cutting, and plasma cutting. Students will also learn how to use power and hand tools. Students are introduced to technology by the use of 3D printing software and CAD drawing. General shop safety and knowledge that can be used at home or on the job is part of this class.

This is a continuation of Metal 1 which will give the students the opportunity to develop skills desired for the workplace. Individual project construction is required. MIG/TIG welding, CAD, 3D printing, laser cutting/engraving, and TorchMate plasma cutting table programming will be in the technology phase. Lathe work, advanced automotive, and various welding techniques may also be covered.

Plants provide many practical and recreational benefits, whether it is the food we eat, the parks we enjoy, or the gardens we admire. Horticulture is geared toward students who want to learn about plants and their many uses. This is a “hands-on” class that will provide a strong foundation in growing plants, plant identification, plant propagation, soils, fertilizers, and landscape design. The student will also grow and sell plants for the annual plant sale. Career and leadership skills are emphasized.

This is a “hands-on” class for the student who wishes to continue their study of horticulture. Topics include: landscape design, plant science, pest management, container and vegetable gardening and greenhouse crop production. Students will also grow and sell plants for the annual plant sale. Customer service, leadership, retail and wholesale sales skills are emphasized.

Horticulture 3 allows students who have successfully completed Horticulture 1 and 2 to continue and improve their plant, propagation, safety, and greenhouse management skills. Students will develop business and marketing skills to successfully compete for employment or entrepreneurship in the Horticulture industry. Students will act as team leaders for Horticulture 1 and 2 students where leadership, professionalism and industry skills are emphasized.

Students will develop an understanding of wholesale and retail sales, marketing, inventory, transportation, short and long-term planning and other business-specific skills to ensure success at the annual plant sale. In this introductory class students will explore the concepts of art through retail floriculture. Students will design and create floral products such as corsages, boutonnieres, and holiday products. Students will gain knowledge and skills in flower identification and classification, care and handling, and the procedures and tools used in the retail industry. The course also includes information on sales and service, career opportunities, leadership activities, computer skills and record keeping practices.

Students will expand their art and floral design knowledge. Students will be responsible for researching current industry trends, designing, and constructing weekly arrangements. Students will create a portfolio of work that demonstrate entry level skills that can be used for potential employment opportunities. Class emphasis is placed on hands-on and professional skills including special event planning and specialty arrangements (wedding design, funerary, etc.). Leadership activities, sales and service aspects, and opportunities to work in the school Floral Shop are available.

Students are responsible for the operation and management of the WHS Floral Shop. Emphasized skills include: customer service, taking and completing orders, money-handling, wholesale and retail cost evaluation, marketing and social media, advanced design, inventory, care and handling of flowers, and shop maintenance. Real-world job placement is emphasized, therefore, reliability, work ethic, self-discipline, leadership, and teamwork are expected.

Floral Management 2 students will continue their responsibilities in the operation and management of the WHS Floral Shop as well as act as mentors in guiding and modeling proper professional and design skills to Floral 1 and 2 students. Students take an active leadership role in the school Floral Shop practicing and reinforcing customer service, industry, and design skills. Participation in available work-site learning opportunities is encouraged. Students will complete Floral Shop Management 2 with a professional-level Portfolio of Work.

If you want to learn about boats, outboards, stern drives, in-boards, jet-drives, diesel engines, electrical systems, pneumatics and hydraulics, fabrication, and fiberglass and gel coat then this is the class for you. This class will use a laboratory (hands on) environment to gain knowledge and skills to work on and repair fiberglass and aluminum boats, marine engines, and drive systems. We will learn basic and periodic maintenance along with basic troubleshooting of engines and electrical systems.
Beginning Video Production is a semester-long course that gives students a hands-on introduction into video production as an art and technical trade. By the end of the semester, students will learn the artistic principles of videography through the use of professional equipment and the application of the video production process.
Advanced Video Production is a semester-long course that immerses students in the video production industry. By the end of the semester, students will explore several video production career paths by rotating through workshops like animation, audio engineering, videography, prop and set design, client productions, and more. They will also have the opportunity to participate in competitions, tour an industry facility, and host an annual film festival.
Those students who complete at least four business classes (2 credits) successfully (“C” or better) are entitled to receive a Certificate of Proficiency. The purpose of these certificates is to provide an official record of business classes taken and grades earned to prospective employers. Students may wish to include a certificate with their resume when applying for a job.
In this course students will learn basic programming using JavaScript. In addition, students will be introduced to the foundational concepts of computer science and explore the impact computing and technology have on society. This course is aligned with the AP Computer Science Principles standards and will be taught using CodeHS AP Computer Science Principles online curriculum. Students are encouraged to take the AP Computer Science Exam at the end of the course. Recommended prerequisite of Algebra 2.
This class allows students an opportunity to explore and develop employability skills and occupational knowledge that prepares them for success after high school. Professional skills such as: resume and cover letter building, acquiring letters of recommendation, interview basics, as well as electronic, verbal, and social media communication will be taught. Post high school basics such as taxes, renting, opening a bank account, entrepeneurialship, etc. will also be discussed. Designed to help students explore the elements of starting and managing a small business. Topics include conducting a feasibility analysis, finding sources of capital, acquiring critical human resources, managing assets, and dealing with various internal and external factors, including stakeholders. The foundation of the course will enable students to develop a coherent business plan as well as connect with business owners.
The second semester is for anyone who is considering owning and operating their own business. Owning your own business can be risky but also very rewarding. The course will include all aspects of beginning a business. Funding, operating cost, managing and marketing will be included. The course will be project based in which students will be required to produce a viable business plan that will be evaluated by business people in the community. If you want to “live the American dream-and be your own boss” entrepreneurship is for you. Prerequisite- Small Business Management/Entrepreneurship 1 or teacher approval.

The sports and entertainment marketing field offers careers that combine entertainment and social media with traditional marketing, but with a whole lot more glamor. Explore basic marketing principles while delving deeper into the multi-billion dollar sports and entertainment industry. Learn how professional athletes, sports teams, and entertainers are marketed as commodities and how the savvy people who handle these deals can become very successful. This course will show you exactly how things work behind the scenes of a major entertainment event and how you can be a part of the act.
Requirements: $20 Materials Fee and a Digital Camera (preferably one that has the ability to be adjusted manually). If you do not have access to a digital camera, cameras can be checked out from school.
Students explore basic digital photography through a variety of assignments that focus on the technical and compositional elements of photography. Students will gain expertise in shooting, editing and the presentation of photographs. Students will become accustomed to both Photoshop and other photo editing software. Each student will be encouraged to generate imaginative and creative ideas and develop skills that reveal a solid foundation in photography.

This course offers you the opportunity to learn the marketing and customer service skills needed in the fast paced world of retailing. You will operate the student store in order to have a hands-on understanding of concepts such as: marketing, economics, information management, risk management, distribution, inventory control, and buying and pricing. This experience will also increase your business skills and chances of employment. In addition, leadership skills will be developed through a variety of activities including the opportunity to participate in FBLA, a student leadership organization.
Students in this class design and produce the school yearbook and digital publications. Students will act as page designers, photographers, photo editors, cartoonists, graphic designers, advertising salespersons, interviewers, reporters, copy editors, section editors and/or desktop publishers

Thai, Italian, Japanese, East Indian, Mexican and German foods are just some of the areas we will study and enjoy. Emphasis will be placed on teamwork, leadership and culinary skills. Students may enter at semester time with instructor approval. Students can be enrolled in Skills USA for their Leadership Component and will be eligible for cooking and leadership competitions.

Design and build projects that apply concepts learned in algebra and geometry while mastering the mathematical practices. Learn about electrical wiring, manufacturing and create manned and unmanned aircraft. This course may be taken to satisfy the 3rd year of math state graduation requirements. This course does not meet 3rd year Math Entrance requirements for 4 year colleges and universities. This course articulates with a LCC college class.
