The State of Vermont has a School Entry Immunization rule, which sets minimum immunization requirements for attendance at regulated child care programs, public and independent K-12 schools and colleges to protect students, staff and visitors against vaccine-preventable diseases.
For our High School level students, these include:
Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib)
Pneumococcal (PCV)
Hepatitis B (HepB)
Diphtheria, Tetanus, Pertussis (DTaP)
Poliovirus (Polio, IPV)
Measles, Mumps, Rubella (MMR)
Varicella (Chicken pox)**
Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis (Tdap)
**Vaccine OR documentation of history of disease.
As per the Vermont Department of Health, the AOE, and the CDC, all of the above vaccinations will be required for each of our students. The only exceptions to this rule include a Religious Exemption, as well as a Medical Exemption (See attached forms). The State of Vermont no longer recognizes a Philosophical Exemption.
If a student is found to be noncompliant in their immunizations, we will do whatever we can to help you arrange an appointment to get these immunizations up to date. If multiple attempts are made to either schedule an appointment or to obtain records, and these requests have not been completed/fulfilled, AND one of the exemption forms has not been completed within a reasonable amount of time, the School Board has the right to exclude said student from school due to noncompliance with the Vermont Immunization Law (Title 18, Chapter 21, Subchapter 4).
At this time (11/15/23), there is currently NO STATE REQUIREMENT regarding the Covid Vaccine for school age students. It is highly recommended, but not required. Once the State of Vermont makes stance on the topic, we will update our policies to stay in compliance with the requirements of the State of Vermont.

Further information on the importance of Childhood vaccines can be found here , provided by the CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention).
IMMUNIZATION EXEMPTIONS
BFUHS will follow the Vermont Statute 18 V.S.A. § 1122, which will only allow exemptions to immunizations in the case of a Medical diagnosis or a Religious belief. It is a state law that we follow these statutes, as this information is reportable to the state. If information on your student's immunizations is not up to date, you will be contacted prior to the due date of the State Report, which is the end of December. If your student is not up to date on their immunizations and there is not an exemption on file, your student will not be allowed to attend classes in person until either the vaccination process has been addressed by either receiving a vaccine, or an exemption has been signed. Furthermore, even if your student is attending courses virtually and is not physically in the building and around other students/faculty/staff, if your student is enrolled at BFUHS, it is still the law that they comply with the Vermont Statutes regarding vaccinations (meaning that they still need to have all their immunizations as per the recommendation of the CDC and the State of Vermont).
