Monday, 4/1

  • Introduce new unit, Unit 3, Consumer Law pg. 158 in textbook.

  • Chapter 7, Consumer Law and Contracts pg. 160 read "Business Week News" and discuss photo on pg. 161 product warranties and written estimates.

  • Contracts for Both Goods and Services and the "dominant" element determines the law that will apply. (read example on pg. 163)

  • HW: Students must define the Key Terms and Academic vocabulary for Section 7.1 Sales Contracts and Section 7.2 Consumer Protection.

  • Ch. 7 Vocabulary Quiz Wednesday

  • DO NOW: Complete pg. 67 in student workbook. Review answers

  • Discussion of Merchants (Pro's) vs. Non merchants (Schmo's) and Rules that apply to "Firm offer". How long must it be kept open? Review from Contract law, the idea of what consideration is.

  • Federal Trade Commission (FTC) rules regarding:

    1. Negative option (subscription to magazine, book club, CD club). What YOU must do? What SELLER must legally tell you?

    2. Cooling-off (3 business days to cancel door-to-door sales)

    3. Telemarketing sales (Telemarketing Sales Rule Law/Do Not Call Registry)

    4. Shopping by mail, phone, fax or Internet (What rules has the FTC established to protect you.)

  • Warranties (pg. 171-172). How express warranties are created? Statement of Fact or Promise/Description or Sample of the Goods/Advertisements

  • Give back Ch. 7 Vocabulary Quizzes
