Christmas break now seems like a distant memory as we enter our third week back at school.
A Huge welcome to all our new pupils. Rainbow Room and Nursery are filling up fast, so if you have a child that is 2 or 3, (or under - it's never too soon to get their name on the list!) please get in touch with the office to secure their space.
Thank you for your continued support with LFT testing and reporting, staggered starts and pick ups, and for ensuring you distance and wear masks in the vicinity of school. We all need to do all we can to minimise transmission and keep school open.
We were delighted to start the new term by sharing with you the wonderful Ofsted Report we received after our inspection in November. For anyone who hasn't yet had the opportunity to read this, it can be found here:
Friday 4th February 2022 is the NSPCC 'Dress up in Digits' day.
Children will take part in a number of maths activities throughout the day and we encourage children to wear a 'number' themed outfit. This could be something such as an item of clothing with numbers on (e.g. a football shirt), creating your own numbers and adding them to clothing, socks, a onesie, or even just a numbered accessory!
Suggested minimum donation of £1 for NSPCC to be made via School Gateway.
Tuesday 8th February 2022 is 'Safer Internet Day'. Safer Internet Day is celebrated globally in February each year to promote the safe and positive use of digital technology for children and young people. The theme this year is ‘All fun and games? Exploring respect and relationships online’.
The children will take part in several fun activities and games linked to this year’s theme which will enable them to really understand these important key messages about being safe online and they will be able to come home and tell you about them, so please do ask them!
On Friday 18th February 2022 we are asking all children to wear red in support of the Children's Heart Unit Fund. This charity have been amazing with their support for Emily who attends our Nursery (and sister Chloe is in Year 4) and has ongoing medical problems linked to her heart. They also previously supported Amelia, now at Highfield, who had heart transplant while a pupil at Prudhoe West. We would love to give something back.
Your red outfit can be anything you want it to be, and you could simply opt for uniform if you don't have anything else red.
Suggested minimum donation of £1 to be made via School Gateway.
Thursday 3rd March 2022 we will be celebrating World Book Day.
Children are invited to come to school dressed as a character from their favourite book - this is a great opportunity to wear the Alice in Wonderland costumes again, so please don't feel you need to make something new.
All children will receive a £1 voucher to spend on a book of their choice.
We will be celebrating Red Nose Day on Friday 18th March 2022. Watch out for further information!
We are Prudhoe West Little Leaders and we are writing to ask you help us with a project we want our school to do. This project will help the environment and help homeless people. It is called the Crisp Packet Project.
Crisp packets are not currently recyclable in home recycling bins but we have found a way to put them to good use. They can be used to make warm blankets and sleeping bags for homeless people. We think this is a brilliant idea.
A crisp packet takes 80 years to decompose. Each blanket puts 44 crisp packets to good use instead!
How you can help?
When you have a packet of crisps, keep the packet. Maybe find a box at home you can collect all your crisp packets in. The best crisp packets to use are most Walkers brands or anything that is fairly soft and has foil inside.
If you have time, open the bottom, cut them down the side and give them a wash. (But don’t worry if you don’t have the time or energy for this, we will do it for you if that’s the case!) Here’s how to cut them... but it is fairly obvious!: https://youtu.be/sh3RDMjhZcQ
Bring the crisp packets into school and put them in the collection box.
Tell as many people that you know about this and ask them to collect their crisp packets to add to your collection.
If you work somewhere that would have space for a crisp packet collection box, ask them to set one up so we collect even more crisp packets! Any box will do and we can give you a poster to put on it if you ask.
What happens next?
When we have lots of crisp packets (at least 8kg to be exact) we send them off to the Crisp Packet Project. They very cleverly iron them together and make them into blankets. Because they have foil in, they’re really good at keeping people warm.
If we could get any volunteer grown ups, they could even use our bags to make some blankets of our own to give out. This is how that works: https://youtu.be/0G8sV7v5tBc
We really want to make this a big thing for Prudhoe West. It costs nothing and can really help the environment and some people who sadly don’t have warm homes to live in. Please help us make sure everyone in Prudhoe knows about the Prudhoe West Crisp Packet Project!
We will start collecting from Monday 17th January 2022.
Thank you very much for helping us!

Some of you may have noticed that we now have a clothing bank collection point! It is situated in the main car park just outside of the school gates.
We are working with Fundraise and Recycle Ltd who are a local North East based company to collect all your unwanted and unloved clothing, bags, shoes(pairs) and toys for collection and distribution. This fits in perfectly with our sustainability goals by encouraging recycling.
We would love it if you contributed!
In Nursery, we have been learning about Traditional Tales. We have started with the story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears, focusing on the number three as well as small, medium and large. Ask us to sing the Goldilocks song at home!
We have also thoroughly enjoyed sensory play with shaving foam - look out for the photos/videos on our school Facebook page soon!
Reception have been busy with their topic of Traditional Tales and have been learning about The Gingerbread Man story.
They have been very creative and have made story spoons to represent the characters from The Gingerbread Man!
Year 1 were shocked to discover that their classroom had been sectioned off. After lots of investigating the children discovered that their class had been taken over by Aliens and they learnt the story about the lost Alien 'Beegu'.
Year 2 studied the story of 'The hueys and the new jumper'. They discussed the importance of following our own paths and being unique. Each child was then given their own Huey made theirs as individual as they could!
Year 3 have brightened up the dark days of January by learning all about light and shadows in science. They have learnt the difference between sources of light and reflectors and experimented to see how shadows are formed and change through the day. They then put their knowledge of shadows into action by making shadow puppets of different shapes and sizes to use in our shadow theatre.
Year 4 have been learning all about Ancient Greece in History. They have learnt about the gods and the history of democracy. The acted out the story of Troy.
Fiona will be back in school on Friday 21st January 2022 to take school photos for all children that missed the last opportunty. She is also availble to take photos of children attending toddler group.
