our online newsletter for parents, carers and the community
Firstly, we would like to say welcome back to all our pupils and parents. It has been lovely to have everyone back in school and back to some sort of 'normality'. The children have had a great first week getting to know their new teachers and classrooms and settling back in.
Today we had so much fun watching the Tour of Britain pass through Prudhoe. The whole school watched and cheered as they came through.
Throughout the morning the children learnt about something relating to the race which could have been about the route (nationally or locally), the history, the riders, health benefits of cycling, cycling safety or The Angel of the North.
Ask your child what they learnt!
The cost of school meals is now £2.10 a day (£5.50 per week) for children in Preschool, Nursery, Year 3 and Year 4.
Children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2, alongside those registered for Free School Meals, will continue to recieve their meal for free each day.
For children in Preschool - Year 2, all children have a school meal each day.
For children in Year 3 and 4 - children may opt to bring a packed lunch, but our preference would be that they continue to take a school meal.
At the moment, all children up to and including Year 2 are entitled to a free piece of fruit at breaktime through the Governent SFVS Scheme.
For children in Year 3 and 4, you are able to send your child into school with a healthy snack each day for them to eat at breaktime.
Please Remember - Meals should be booked and paid for in advance each week on the School Gateway App - Clubs section.
This week we have started new arrangements for our lunchtimes in school. Reception and Nursery will eat together, followed by Year 1 and Year 3 and then finally Year 2 and Year 4.
We are hoping that the older children will be able to show the younger children how to behave at the lunch table. Children have their own place at the table and all have been reminded of how they should behave. The table with the most points at the end of the week will be able to sit at our 'top table' the following week! The children are very excited!
We are so excited that we are able to attend our annual pantomime performance at Newcastle Theatre Royal on Thursday 25th November 2021.
This is for Years 1-4 and letters have been sent out on School Gateway. The cost is £15 per child and this needs to be paid via School Gateway no later than Friday 15th October 2021.
We still have lots of pre-loved uniform available and many families have already benefitted from this scheme. Please complete the Swap Shop form on the website (link below) to request uniform.
We strongly encourage all parents to utilise this service.
MIDDLE SCHOOL ADMISSIONS
The portal for admissions to middle school for September 2022 will open Sunday 12th September 2021 and will close on 31st October 2021. This is for all children currently in Year 4 who will be moving to a middle school next September.
This is an important application process and it is important that aplications are made on time.
RECEPTION ADMISSIONS
The Northumberland County council school admisssions portal will open on 1st November and close on 15th January 2022 for all Reception applications. This is for all children who currently attend our nursery who are joining our Reception class in September 2022.
Unfortunately this Friday (17th) we will be saying goodbye to Ms Beeckmans (formally Mrs Jones). Lisa currently works at our Breakfast and Afterschool Club and has had a variety of roles since her time with us. She has been at Prudhoe West for a very long time and we are all sad to see her go but wish her all the best of luck. Good Luck Ms Beeckmans, we will all miss you!

If shopping on Amazon, please also support the school by accessing amazon via smile.amazon.co.uk
The first time you log on, search for 'Prudhoe West' (Prudhoe West First School Parent Teacher Association) and select us as your organisation to support, then shop via the smile.amazon.co.uk link rather than the main amazon site. Again there is no difference to you, but this will support the school. Please share these links via your socials and with friends and family.
