Favourites friday

In celebration of the amazing half term we have had, our enrichment day this Friday is titled 'Favourites Friday'. It will be an opportunity for staff and children to share and enjoy some of their very favourite things.

More details will be shared via the class streams, but think favourite songs, stories, outfits, food, toys, jokes... whatever is going to make everyone smile!

We will continue with our enrichment days one day a week after half term (we know the usually timetable is tiring!). The first three will be 'Let's Count' Day on Friday 26th February, linked to the upcoming National Census, World Book Day on Thursday 4th March, and 'Sustainability' Day on Friday 12th March (whether we are in school or at home!), focusing on the work we are doing to become Sustainability Ambassadors.

ROCK POOLS ROCK!

A huge thank you to Mrs Russell, Emily and Ciara's mum, who joined the Year 2 children online last week to talk about her former job as a marine biologist!

The children absolutely loved the session, learning all about the sea life, as part of their Science work about 'living things'. They got to see lots of animals and found out what things they might be able to spot in rock pools at the beach.

If you or any family members have a job, or hobby/interest, that you would love to share with the children, please get in touch and we can put in you in touch with the most appropriate year group teachers for the topic. It's such an experience for the children to hear from people with specialist skills and knowledge. Maybe you could inspire one of them to follow in your footsteps in the future.

DON'T FORGET - to complete the Heathcare Plan form (link below) asap if your child has any condition which should be noted on their records. A lot of people haven't yet done this!

safer internet day

On Tuesday 9th February we will be focusing on online safety. We'd love parents and other family members to get involved too.

We'll also soon be recruiting our first Online Safety Ambassadors from Year 3!

RAINBOW ART competition

See details above for a competition open to all pupils. The current art work hasn't been changed for far too long! Please feel free to post in your entries, drop them off if passing on a walk, or wait until we return and bring them back with you. Be as abstract as you like! I can't wait to see what you come up with. (Must be A4, portrait, to fit the frames)

DATE FOR YOUR DIARY! World Book Day - Thursday 4th March... no costumes needed

Getting to know the PWA Staff....

This week... MS. SPEED!

UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL!

Where are you from? I was born in Newcastle but lived most of my life in the Tyne valley.

How long have you been working in schools? I've been teacher for 30 years. Next week marks 21 years at Prudhoe West!

What is your favourite book? I love reading. I like books written by Ben Elton because they're funny, but I also love thrillers. I've recently discovered Audible and am enjoying listening to books when I have to do something boring like housework!

What else do you do when you're not at work? My favourite thing to do is spend time with my family. I really enjoy watching films; l love comedies, thrillers and stories with an interesting twist. The film of The Green Mile by Stephen King is amazing! My other hobbies are running (slowly!), swimming, walking my dog and meeting up with my friends.

What is your favourite type of food? I love takeaways, especially pizza (usually from The Woodoven in Wylam). But I also like cooking healthy vegan meals.

Why do you like your job? I love being a teacher because you get to be quite creative - thinking of ways to make learning fun and memorable. Also, children are so funny; I could write a book about all the things they've said to me over the years!

What's it like to work at Prudhoe West? I love working at Prudhoe West because the children always show such enthusiasm for everything and they are so kind to one another. In over 20 years, I've worked with a lot of different staff but they have all been lovely, thoughtful and best of all, lots of fun!
