ALSO Provider Course
Participants attending an ALSO Course learn practical, standardized team-based approaches to managing emergency situations, such as postpartum hemorrhage, shoulder dystocia, breech delivery, cord prolapse and maternal resuscitation. Although labor and delivery room emergency care is the main focus of the program, the ALSO curriculum further addresses preventive care and practice concerns, such as medical complications of pregnancy, preterm labor, labor dystocia, trauma, and helping parents cope with a birth crisis.
ALSO Instructor Course
Pre-requisite: Must have active ALSO Provider status on the date of the Instructor course. The AAFP does not allow ANY flexibility on this requirement.
If you are not sure of your ALSO Provider status please check with the AAFP.
The ALSO Instructor Course equips current ALSO Providers with the skills and knowledge they need to effectively teach ALSO courses. This course is divided into two activities: Online and Live. Completion of all required online materials must be achieved at least 24 hours prior to the start of the live course. The online course is designed to be completed at your own pace. It is highly recommended to allow at least 4 collective hours to successfully complete this online course. The in-person portion of the course will be practical sessions on how to lead ALSO Provider workstations and group testing.

The ECHO Model: "During an ECHO session, participants present real (anonymized) cases to the specialists—and each other—for discussion and recommendations. Participants learn from one another, as knowledge is tested and refined through a local lens. This continuous loop of learning, mentoring and peer support is what makes ECHO unique, with a long-lasting impact far beyond that of an in-person training, webinar or e-learning course. Our knowledge-sharing model brings together specialists from multiple focus areas for a robust, holistic approach."
