Procedural Competency

Procedure Tracking Overview

All procedures should be logged into New Innovations.  This log is self-reported and is a helpful record of your residency. We receive a number of requests for the log from R3s’ prospective employers.  You should always log procedures in NI.

The electronic procedure cards (formerly physical yellow cards) are for documenting competency for a specific list of procedures.  The list of procedures is shown below.  You can always submit procedure cards for non-listed procedures as we will just add them to your file (we don’t add them to NI, though).  You should submit procedure cards even if you are not marked as competent.  In addition to showing procedure competency, the cards are also helpful because they allow the faculty to give narrative comments on your procedures.

We encourage you to use the electronic versions of the cards below.  Any remaining physical yellow cards will still be accepted (your clinic will send these to Danielle via inter-D).

Each month, Katy will send you a list of procedures for which you have been marked as competent.

If you need to opt out of a specific procedure for a religious, conscientious, or medical reason, please contact the Program Director to discuss required steps for documenting this necessary omission and alternative ways of gaining the pertinent medical knowledge.
