Electronic Medical Record (Epic) Checklist

General expectations:

• Check your inbasket at least once every 24 hr Monday-Friday

• Finish clinic notes ideally within 24-48 hr of seeing a patient and within 1 week maximum

Epic review:

• Find schedule

• Open an encounter

• Review how to do a chart review/chart prep (see below)

• Chart review (patient information including encounters, imaging, labs)

• Results review

• Problem list (how to update)

• Notes-how to start a new note

• Medication list-how to delete and add medications

• Order entry

• Smart sets: how to select diagnoses and LOS in a smart set

• Diagnoses: how to enter diagnoses for an encounter

• LOS billing/coding: Show where/how to enter (Brian Arndt will give an R1 seminar on July 2)

• Letters: How to initiate

• Direct messaging chat function: when to use this

• Discuss routing pools (what are they called at your clinic)

• Set up dot phrases/dot phrases for progress notes, well exams, signature, etc.

• Review inbasket basics if time (telephone calls, MyChart, results, re-messages)
