2021-2022
All vocabulary, notes (with video), practice activities and assignments (in-class and homework with due dates) can be found on Google Classroom. The agenda is posted daily as well.
WEEK 11 BLOCK
This week we will conclude our food/gustar unit with a test on Wednesday. We will spend the remainder of the week doing Valentine's Day activities.
We will continue our food unit focusing on the verb gustar in relation to the new vocab. Vocab pronunciation is due Mon. night and there will be a homework assignment. Later in the week there will be a grammar assignment. The unit will wrap up at the end of the week.
WEEK 10 BLOCK
We will continue with our school supplies unit and incorporate the new verb querer, in combination with previously learned vocab and concepts from the last school unit. A project will be assigned Monday and vocab pronunciation is due Monday night. Mid-week we will get new food vocabulary and begin to learn how to discuss likes and dislikes, in relation to food.
We will finish speaking finals Monday and Tuesday due to my absence during the beginning of finals week. We will then continue with our school supplies unit and introduce the irregular verb querer. Students will be assigned a vocab pronunciation quiz as well as a writing project to encompass the entire school unit.
(WEEK 9 BLOCK)
Speaking finals will take place all week. Students signed up for which day they will take the final. During the final, other students will be watching the movie Selena.
We will continue to work with telling time in Spanish and incorporating that concept with our current unit of school classes and -ar verb conjugations. There will be 1 assignment this week, with speaking finals next week. Students will sign up for their day/time on Monday.
12/23-1/3 WINTER BREAK
WEEK 8 BLOCK
We will do some holiday activities this week, including the songs Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer & The 12 Days of Christmas. We will also listen to some Spanish holiday commercials and play Spanish holiday bingo to wrap up our holiday unit. Holiday projects are due Monday.
This week we will continue with -ar verb conjugations and school related vocabulary. There will be 2 assignments on Monday. We will then learn how to express time in Spanish. At the end of the week, we will start our holiday unit and get a project. Students will also be given everything they need for their semester speaking final at the end of the week.
(WEEK 7-8 BLOCK)
We will start our new school unit, focusing on vocab related to classes and other terms associated with school. Mid-week we will learn how to conjugate -ar verb and apply that concept to current vocab verbs.
We will continue working with the verb gustar to express likes and dislikes in terms of activities. There will be a homework assignment Monday, an in-class activity for points on Tuesday and the unit test Friday. At the end of the week, we will start school classes vocab.
11/15-11/19, 11/22-11/26 (WEEK 7 BLOCK) -1/2 week
THANKSGIVING BREAK!
We will continue to work with discussing activities that we like to do and don't like to do. The verb GUSTAR will be introduced, along with indirect object pronouns that are required when using that verb. Toward the end of the week we will do some Thanksgiving activities.
(WEEK 6 BLOCK)
We will finish our descriptions unit with hair/eye color and the verb TENER. There will also be a re-teach and test re-take seminar for the unit test. We will then have a mini unit on definite and indefinite articles. We will also discuss the concept of infinitive verbs in preparation for our next big unit, likes and dislikes regarding different activities and get our next vocab list of infinitive verbs representing these different activities.
We will conclude our unit on adjectives with the verb SER with a test on Wednesday. There will also be a homework assignment on Monday. We will continue to work with descriptions by incorporating new adjectives with the verb TENER and will focus on merging the 2 concepts together to thoroughly describe people.
WEEK 5 BLOCK)
We will continue with our unit on the verb SER and incorporating adjectives to describe different subjects. We will learn how to properly form adjectives to match who/what they are describing. There will be an in-class assignment on Friday.
The quinceañera unit will end Monday with an in-class activity that reviews what has been discussed in regards to the tradition.
(WEEK 4 BLOCK)
This week will consist of working on Spanish subject pronouns and the verb SER. Mid-week we will learn about Quinceañeras. Students should be studying for their term 1 speaking test, that will take place during the week of 10/18.
We will wrap up our weather unit with a homework assignment and a test. Calendar projects are due Monday night. We will then start our first grammar unit, discussing subject pronouns and the similarities and differences between Spanish and English. Friday students will receive all they need for their 1st speaking test at the end of the term.
(WEEK 3 BLOCK)
We will continue our calendar unit. There will be a homework assignment at the beginning of the week involving dates and seasons, with a project assigned mid-week. We will then start with weather, learning the vocabulary of different weather phrases and using it with previously learned content.
We will begin our calendar unit, learning vocabulary for days of the week, months, seasons, and other terms associated with the calendar. The final introductory phrases will be introduced, dealing with expressing dates and birthdays. An introductory writing project will be assigned at the beginning of the week and due at the end of the week.
(WEEK 2 BLOCK)
We will start our work with Spanish speaking countries and capitals this week. This will include their location on the map as well as introductory phrases dealing with origin. There will be 1 homework assignment and starting next week the first introductory writing assignment will be assigned.
This week we will work with Spanish numbers and their pronunciation as well as introductory questions and responses involving age in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd person. There will be 1 homework assignment.
(WEEK 1 BLOCK)
This week we will continue practicing the Spanish pronunciation of the alphabet, with a test on Friday. We will also continue working with introductory questions and responses. At the end of the week, we will start with Spanish numbers.
This week we will start off learning about cognates. Then we will learn introductory phrases to have a basic conversation as well as the pronunciation of the Spanish alphabet. Students will also pick their Spanish names.

Oct. 10-14
There will be a Ch. 1-3 comprehension quiz over the book and we will continue with Maya culture and the book. Students will get a Maya culture project and we will continue with additional travel vocabulary. We will finish the book on Friday and begin our next grammar unit, dealing with object pronouns.
Oct. 3-7
We will continue with our travel unit and start the book El Viaje de Su Vida. We will spend 1/2 the class period working through each chapter of the book and the other 1/2 focusing on our travel vocabulary and the present progressive verb tense - which focuses on communicating using "-ing" statements.
Sept. 26-30
We will finish up our prepositions and locations in the city unit. There will be a test on Wednesday. We will then start our travel unit, focusing on travel preparation and airport vocabulary.
Sept. 19-23
This week we will start our unit on prepositions and locations in the city. We will work with different maps to determine the locations of place in relation to other places. Friday we will watch a movie for Homecoming
Sept. 12-16
We will continue to work with tener expressions and the review the verbs ser and estar and their reasons for use, as they both translate the same way. Mid-week students will receive a superhero project incorporating ser, estar, and tener verbs.
Sept. 5-9
NO SCHOOL MONDAY
This week will we continue with stem-changing verbs and there will be a test on Thursday. We will then start our unit on tener expressions
Aug. 29-Sept.2
We will finish our regular present tense review unit will an in-class writing assignment. We will continue on to irregular and stem-changing verbs in the present. This will consist of review and new verbs. Students will have a sentence formation assignment at the end of the week.
Aug. 23-26
This week we are reviewing Spanish I concepts, in particular regular present tense verbs, including gustar. Review vocabulary will be used throughout the unit.

FINALS WEEK
Students will continue to work with formal commands and compare them to informal commands. This week, we will also watch a documentary called Living on a Dollar, about life in Guatemala. Final presentations will take begin on Tuesday and continue through Thursday.

We will continue our unit on Honduras with commands and animals. At the end of the week, will start our unit about Guatemala. Students will get background geographical information on the country, as well as learn about an important figure in education. Students will also learn formal commands and compare them to informal commands.

At the beginning of the week, we will start our book "Vida y Muerte en la Mara Salvatrucha", which is the true story of a former MS-13 gang member. By the end of the week, we will begin our unit about Honduras by learning some background about the country. This unit consists of animal vocabulary as well as informal tú commands.

We will finish our study of Nicaragua at the beginning of the week and then we begin our unit about El Salvador. Additionally, we will be studying the conditional perfect verb tense to talk about what "would have happened."

We will continue our unit about Panama and begin the grammar in this unit, past perfect. The Past Perfect is used to express what someone "had done" in the past. Students will receive a writing assignment that covers current grammar and important figures involved in the construction of the Panama Canal. We will begin our unit on Costa Rica by learning about different regions within the country. We will also get a new vocabulary list that focuses on the environment and start to work with the future verb tense.

We will finish our unit about the Dominican Republic by learning about Rafael Trujillo and the Mirabal sisters. We will start our unit about Panamá by learning basic information about the country, including some Panamanian slang. We will see this slang in context through an authentic song. We will also learn about the Guna people and how they construct their traditional molas. Students will create their own with paper. .

10/10-10/14
We will start working with both past tenses together, differentiating between the 2 and when to use one over the other. We will finish our Colombia unit and start our unit on Ecuador. Our grammar for the Ecuador unit will be comparatives and superlatives.
10/3-10/7
We will continue to work with the preterite including when to use it and proper formation. We will listen to an authentic song from Shakira that targets the current grammar and talk about the drug trafficking epidemic in Colombia and start looking at the other past tense in Spanish, the imperfect. At the end of the week we will watch María, llena eres de gracia.
9/26-9/30
This week will wrap up the unit on Chile and the present subjunctive with a Chilean legend and a Chile travel project. We will start our unit on Colombia with background information and begin looking at the preterite past tense in Spanish.
9/19-9/23
We will continue with the present subjunctive, focusing on when to use it and how to form it. We will do additional cultural activities around Chile & watch the movie Los 33 at the end of the week about the Chilean mining collapse of 2010.
9/12-9/16
We will begin this week continuing learning about the economic, political and humanitarian crisis in Venezuela, as well as formal commands. A commands project will be given that incorporates this cultural aspect. We will then start our unit on Chile and begin learning the present subjunctive verb tense.

We will finish our unit on Paraguay and informal commands. Students will have food presentations Wednesday. We will start our unit on Venezuela, learning specifically about the economic, political and humanitarian crisis the country has endured as well as review formal commands.

We will continue with our Paraguay unit and review informal commands. We will combine cultural activities with grammar activities. Students will present their country culture presentations and receive a cooking project to incorporate Paraguayan food and commands. Red culture notebooks are due end of week.

This week we will do some basic review activities, get culture notebooks assigned and then begin our unit on Paraguay. We will cover background information about the country and students will research a specific cultural aspect of the country to present to the class.
