Medication Administration
We understand that some students may need to take medication during the school day to support their health and learning. Whenever possible, medications should be administered at home to reduce disruptions to the school environment.
If medication must be given during school hours, including prescription, over-the-counter, or emergency medications (such as rescue inhalers or epinephrine auto-injectors/Epi-Pens), the following guidelines must be followed:
A completed Medication Authorization Form is required before any medication can be administered at school.
The form must be signed by both a licensed healthcare provider and the student’s parent or guardian.
Medications must be delivered to the school by a parent/guardian in the original pharmacy-labeled container or manufacturer-labeled packaging.
Students are not permitted to carry medication on their person unless it is authorized by a healthcare provider and approved by school staff (e.g., emergency inhalers or EpiPens).
A new form is required each school year, OR any time there is a change in dosage, medication, or instructions.
