School Counseling Support
School counselors are certified, specially trained educators who support the academic, social-emotional, career, college, and post-secondary development of all students. Working in partnership with students, families, and staff, school counselors help remove barriers to learning and empower students to reach their full potential. School counselors are a vital part of the educational team, helping ensure every student feels supported, heard, and prepared for their future, both in and out of the classroom.
Academic Support
Help students develop effective study habits, time management, and goal-setting skills
Monitor student academic progress and collaborate with teachers and families to address challenges
Assist with course selection, scheduling, and academic planning
Social-Emotional Development
Provide individual and group counseling to support students dealing with personal, emotional, or social issues
Teach skills such as emotional regulation, conflict resolution, decision-making, and peer relationships
Promote a positive school climate and work to prevent bullying or other harmful behaviors
Career & College Readiness
Support students in exploring career interests and post-secondary options
Provide guidance for high school course planning to align with future goals
Assist with college applications, financial aid, scholarships, and career exploration resources
Family & Community Collaboration
Act as a liaison between school and home to support student well-being
Refer students and families to community agencies and mental health resources
Serve as the school-level 504 Coordinator and participate in MTSS (Multi-Tiered System of Support) teams to ensure student needs are met holistically
Crisis Intervention & Prevention
Provide immediate support in crises (grief, trauma, threats to safety)
Assist with re-entry plans for students returning to school after hospitalization or a prolonged absence.
Support staff with resources for mental health, wellness, and trauma-informed practices
