Willington Prep - Celebrating 140 years - 1885-2025
Welcome back to the Summer Term 2025! With only three days this week, we've hit the ground running - and the Easter break already feels like a distant memory!
In Humanities, we’ve launched our new topics for the half term. In Geography, we’re exploring Eastern Europe, while in History, we’ve turned our attention to 1960s Britain and America, including a look at Superpower relations. This week, we began by mapping the countries of Eastern Europe and collecting key facts to build our contextual knowledge.
In Maths, we’ve kicked off a revision cycle, revisiting essential number skills. We’ve focused on Factors, Multiples, Prime Numbers, and Prime Factors to ensure a strong foundation as we move forward. In Latin we read the myth of Odysseus and the Sirens and then created a comic strip. We thought the Sirens in the text book looked scary rather than alluring, so we tried to do a better job! We then had time to research the other adventures Odysseus had on the way home from Troy, which were many.
In Science, we are revisiting the seven life processes, ensuring we can confidently identify and explain each one. We’ve especially focused on understanding the difference between breathing and respiration - two processes that are often confused but are not the same! It’s been a great opportunity to refresh and build on our prior knowledge as we start the new term.
In English this week, we have finished our Goodnight Mister Tom topic by watching the film, comparing and contrasting it to the text and looking at how different literary devices are used in film for effect.
Have a great weekend!
