Willington Prep - Celebrating 140 years - 1885-2025
Welcome back to the Summer Term 2025! With only three days this week, we've hit the ground running—and the Easter break already feels like a distant memory!
In History, we've launched our exciting new topic: The American West. We kicked off by comparing historical maps to explore the major changes in frontier borders, population movement, and the impact of technology between 1840 and 1890. We then began gathering facts about Native American history, which will be the focus of our first sub-topic. Complimenting our History studies, our new topic in Geography is North America. We started by challenging ourselves to label all the countries that make up this vast and diverse continent.
In Maths, we’ve been "myth-busting" around Negative Numbers and revisiting the Order of Operations to sharpen our skills and start the term strong. In Science, we have started our exciting new topic on Life Cycles. We explored the different parts of a flowering plant, with a particular focus on the flower. In Computing this week, we applied formulas to build simple conversion tools—for example, converting centimetres to metres - helping us carry out calculations quickly and efficiently. It's been a great start to the new term!
In English, we have started our new text 'Kensuke's Kingdom' this week, we have made predictions based on the front cover and blurb, and enjoyed learning the back story in chapter 1.
Have a lovely weekend.
