Willington Prep - Celebrating 140 years - 1885-2025
25th April 2025
I hope you all had a peaceful Easter break and, judging by the pupils' responses in assembly on Wednesday, you managed to reach many far-flung parts of the globe. A few of you enjoyed some time on the slopes; even with the amount of sunshine there was, the runs still to cling on to the last of the winter snow. The school skiing trip to Italy (see video below) was a great success, and every single one of the children successfully conquered the mountains. My thanks to Mr Gibbs for an amazing job organising this overseas trip, and I'm sure the children came home full of tales from the mountain tops! This brings me to next year's overseas trip to Barcelona, where we will be closing applications by the end of next week. There are only a couple of places left for children in years 4-6 next year , so if you are interested, please do fill in the form below. It promises to be another trip to remember.
Another reminder please that the golf day is coming up the weekend after half term on Saturday, the 7th of June, at Silvermere Golf Club. It would be great to see as many people as possible on the course, no matter what level you play; everyone can be accommodated. And if you're anything like me, it will probably need wellington boots as much as golf shoes to retrieve your ball from the water! There are limited places, so please use the link below to sign up as soon as possible.
There were a number of Year 6 children on the skiing trip, and it's not long before they depart for the final residential trip of their time at Willington. The cohort depart for Ullswater in a couple of weeks' time, which I am sure will prove to be another amazing experience in the Lake District. I enjoyed a couple of days there on the way up to Scotland over the Easter break and, whilst the weather wasn't great, it's still an amazing part of the world. I know the children will thoroughly enjoy the trip. Years 5, 4, 3 and 2 will also be departing on their residentials this term and, as the weather begins to turn towards more of a summery outlook, I'm sure they will all have a great time.
Although we have only been back a few days, we have already squeezed in a coffee morning for prospective parents, where our tour guides did an amazing job showing our visitors around. They were all thoroughly impressed. I always say that the best people to sell our school are the children, as they give the authentic viewpoint of a Willington childhood. One parent commented on the way out that she wanted her child to grow up to be like James. So, whatever you said, James, thank you!
This week we continued with our charity work, with a number of our pupils visiting Wimbledon FC stadium as part of our ongoing collaboration with Dons Local Action Group Hub. The children were treated to a tour of the stadium after their charitable efforts.
As Easter was so late this year, the term is extremely short, which means that we have alot to pack in, so please do keep an eye on the newsletter regarding any information to do with sports days, football/netball tournaments, Celebration Day and, of course, our 140th Gala event at the end of June. It's shaping up to be another great term, and I look forward to speaking to many of you throughout as we head towards the summer break. Have a great weekend. KB
