Cold, wet weather? Who cares?! Nothing can dampen our musical spirits as the Pre Prep bring sunshine and warmth to the school with their enthusiastic rehearsals for their Christmas performances (which will be upon us before we know it!). Meanwhile, Year 3 continue to explore the different ways in which music can mimic animals through the marvellous Carnival of the Animals whilst Year 4 are developing their musical vocabulary and understanding of theme and variations form and the orchestra by studying Britten's wonderful Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra. Ukulele skills continue to improve for Year 5 and Year 6 have taken a 'mini break' from their studies of Renaissance music to focus on some body percussion scores and techniques - just what is needed to beat out any stress from 11+ exams! All year-group choirs are moving toward some excellent standards of vocal work which will be revealed at our Christmas Service on 10 December - we can't wait to share our achievements with our friends and family!
CONGRATULATIONS to Julie in Year 2 who recently won first place in the Kingston Upon Thames Festival of the Performing Arts for her 'own choice' piano performance! This is a fantastic achievement as the festival attracts performers from all over the borough.
As always, if you are considering learning a musical instrument at school, please visit the music website (link just below!) for information and an application form - what a fabulous Christmas gift some music lessons could be!
